(This is the sixth of our 6 honorable mentions, which go to submissions that did not make the finals but really rock. They are awarded purely at the judge's discretion. Each honorable mention receives a special gift from CB2.)
From Kate Norman:
"This is a great entry because it presents a myriad of colors in an interesting way. Instead of simply using paint this individual applied color (and may I add beautiful texture) with slate tile. It is a bold statement but grounded because the colors are earth tones and everything else is kept simple...
The look is organic yet graphic due to the large mosaic grid pattern of the wall. The only suggestion I would make, would be to paint the opposite wall one of the darker tones of the tile wall( the copper hue would be a nice choice) to balance the room out. Keep the light side walls but there needs to be a counter balance to the dramatic tile on the other side. Overall conceptually, this space reminds me of a childhood family road trip where I saw the grand canyon at sunset. Beautiful!

Congratulations, Xym0x, on your Honorable Mention!
Hi xym0x -
Thanks for responding! What does ghmm stand for? You got the sink/stand combo from Ikea??? Really??? I didn't see it in the catalog. Did you make it yourself? If so, how?
Congratulations on your honorable mention!

Congratulations Xymcia !!!! :)))))
this was one of my favorites! i absolutely love it.
I love this too-- and I think Kate's suggestion to add color to the walls is a great one, although I'd respectfully disagree with her suggestion of a copper color. I think copper's warmth would overwhelm the warmth of the stone itself, making it look comparatively dull (or worse: matchy-matchy); I would choose to deepen the putty tone that is already in the room (look in the mirror for the wall color on the other side of the room), possibly going a deep gunmetal gray. just my two cents!
I LOVE the wall-- so beautiful, and the round mirror with the square stone tile is a stroke of genius.... congrats C3P0 or whatever your name is!
Kate! I thank you soooo much - you don't even know how much this means to me! It's a dream come true and such unbelievable moral boost for me.
And here is a truly Sci-Fi part of the whole gig :D - this honorable mention comes a day after I was awarded a 4th place in an annual reno/design contest for Canadian House & Home magazine/TV show (not for the same room though - my laundry room was the winner). On top of that I'm in the process of changing my career, to become an interior decorator. PINCH ME! LOL
Once again Kate - thank you, thank you, thank from a super-crazy-happy xym0x :D
to all: thank you for your kind words :D
sharona: it's from IKEA and this line of bathroom furniture is called LAXAN (ghm=clearing your throat ;))
nike & muka: love you guys :D
Phoebe: good suggestion and it's going to happen sooner than later - I'm known to repaint waaay too often ;)
