Commercial Flour Sa...
$90 for an acrylic chair that's not even suitable for desk work isn't "shoestring" in my view. Ditto the $32 cushion. I'm not saying these items aren't worth that much, but they seem like poor choices for a cash-strapped student.
Oo. I used to have that cushion - but in a dusky pink velour. Now my mother has it - my tastes have change.
I don't know about that chair, in particular.
That said, while I've never really liked the look of Louis ghost chairs, when I sat in one once, it was surprisingly comfortable. Still won't buy one though.
So glad you used a girly typeface to reinforce this ridiculous gender obsession in recent AT posts.
I too am amazed that in this day and time, we're still genderizing decor. There are several pieces up there that I would dearly love and that my very feminine princess wife would hate.
Well, do people really expect most males to like pink, ruffles, loopy writing, and dainty details?... It is what it is. Most men like clean lines and solid dark, SO this post is obviously for women. If you don't like it, guess what? Don't click on it...hello.
solid dark colors
As a former Resident Assistant, I find it surprising that AT is suggesting bringing your own furniture. Don't most schools supply that? Mine did - beds, dressers, desks, and chairs - and we weren't allowed to remove any of it. Ditto for all my friends' alma maters.
My roommate and I did manage to squeeze in my mini fridge, but there is no way we could have fit in side tables or a third chair.
Oh that chair is wonderful and only $90! I wish I had known about it earlier before spending more than I should have on the one I already own! LOL.
Just a note - I think that handwriting font has been used on all the preceding Dorm Style pieces.
My college provided all the furniture, too (gross furniture) so there wasn't really much I could do about that, but I would have loved that parachute duvet cover in my room! (Although more likely in the grey - dorm rooms are a little too multi-purpose to survive all white anything, methinks.)
Oh, that little metal IKEA table! I bought a red one years ago, when they came in cool colors (now only white, alas, according to the website) and it has travelled the world with us, serving in kitchens, front porches ... They used to make a 2-tiered plant stand along the same lines/material... sadly discontinued. Anyway, at 20 bucks the table is a steal.
@minuet42 - ditto on the font. if we're putting a gender spin on the fonts now, i would call it 'androgynous' since it was used in previous dorm style posts.
and as far as this 'feminine' room, i don't mind the use of gender stereotypes, but as a girl, i simply don't like it. does that make me a man for liking the 'solid dark colors and clean lines' that a previous poster hinted at?
hmm...i never knew.
Feminine doesn't mean only women will (or should, or could) like it. Think of it this way: if a style is described as feline (like a jag roadster) that doesn't mean it's for cats.
If feminine and masculine are unacceptable as subjective descriptive terms then when exactly are they acceptable? Can one say, this girl is feminine while that one is masculine? If yes then we're almost certainly agreeing on some pretty basic style assumptions and if no then do the words have any meaning at all - or do we all have to reclassify them as mere gibberish syllables?
$90 for a Kartell chair? Must be a knockoff or used.
I have to applaud this dorm style series. It's been excellent, whether or not you have a dorm. Who ever is doing the idea-boards has a great eye.
