Let's face it: most dorm rooms are pretty blah. And usually, painting the walls is not an option. But you can enliven your new digs with little pops of color. Here are my suggestions, inspired by a set of magazine files I found at Ikea for only $3.
Clockwise from top left:
Magazine file, $3 for 4
Sky blue rocking chair, $104
Lime green desk lamp, $33
Bookcase, $40
Magenta notebook, $5
Marimekko duvet cover in Twin, $85
MORE DORM STYLE ON APARTMENT THERAPY:
Modern Feminine for $310
Grey and Yellow for $138
Scandinavian Modern for $238
Moroccan Inspiration for $403

I know college students' budgets are pretty tiny, but do we really need to encourage them to start buying blatant knockoffs so early? Let them admire Eames rockers from afar until they're done with school and can save up for the real deal.
Let the great knockoff debate begin!!!
Great post! I did a fun budget friendly dorm room decor post too!! http://adesignstory.com/dorm-room-decor/
I am loving this series. College students aren't the only ones on tight decorating budgets and these posts have given me lots of great ideas.
I knew the knock-off comments would start as soon as I saw that chair!
Shipping from Amazon tacks on another $60 to the rocking chair - not so much of a bargain.
there are dozens of choices at ikea, CB2, west-elm, EQ3, jimmy's futon emporium, etc. that could have met the "pops of color" verve without invoking the knockoff debate. i chalk it up to poor/lazy journalism (and, perhaps, lack of ethics, creativity, etc.) on the part of the AT editorial staff. this is 80 words and a half dozen links of nothing -- i want my page-click back.
Remember this: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/ny-design-meetup/knockoffs-flattery-or-theft-apartment-therapy-design-evening-149725?
After such a lengthy post/video/debate on knock-offs YESTERDAY, you'd think AT would practice what they preach and at least link in an authentic Eames rocker on Craigslist or eBay. I mean, since it is sooo unethical to buy a plastic Eames rocker off Amazon.com and all.
@drcourt777... brilliant
"but there are choices that are not copies, and people just need to start educating themselves about them."
hypocrisy? or are we educating ourselves that there's a $100 eames chair knockoff out there?
When is ever a great idea to be fake or have a fake anything?
There are plenty of new chairs that could have been put up there - from cb2, ikea, etc.
