Over at the blog Inspire Company, we just came across this super skinny bed fit into a dormer closet.
The blog's writer, Amy, has three dormers in the upper story of her home and one of them just perfectly fit a small cot she had on hand. She describes it as a perfect space for a nap and, from the looks of this image, we completely agree. The small space is windowed, shedding just enough light for curling up with a good book. It's also cozy and a little dim, making for a relaxing little hideaway.

cosy!!! but changing the bedlinen must be the very devil.
Right, i wouldn't mind this so much if it wasn't for changing the sheets. I think it would be better without the bed frame and if there were a bed-sized set of stairs up to it. Right now it seems painful to get into.
*shivers* Looks a bit clausterphobia-inducing to me.
I'm thinking "nix the footboard" too. Otherwise, it looks like a wonderfully cozy place to sleep.
I'd probably put a comfy chair offset in that spot with a lamp... because I just love to read. Love to sleep too, just love to read more.
I'm getting twitchy even just *thinking* about sleeping in something that closed in =\
I'm with Keltrue, without the footboard it makes more sense.
I would love something like this, minus the foot board. I actually love sleeping in small places, sorta wrapped up. I really love cozy tiny spots. I also hate how beds take up so much space in a bedroom, since most of my life I've also had to use my bedroom as a studio and reading area, which is difficult in small places, so if you had a deep dormer window like that you could have your bed off to the side and use the rest of the room for something else.
lose the footboard and the fussy bedding. maybe a simple fitted sheet and a warm down comforter, all in white. looks cozy!
I'd just do a cozy armchair and maybe an ottoman. It looks too claustrophobic to me.
I did this in a studio condo alcove. Never again. What starts out as cozy, ends up being oppressive. I didn't even realize HOW oppressive until I bought a larger condo with a real bedroom. I slept so much better in a real room.
Probably too claustrophobic to sleep in every night, but perfect for naps, which is apparently what the homeowner uses it for.
This is a weird little space, but I like it! I really want to curl up in that bed right now!
However, at night, having my head that close to a dark window would freak me out!
Lose the footboard. It's bad enough to cram a bed into such a tight space, but having to climb over a wooden spindle foot board every time is just terrible.
so cute and cozy, but i agree with posters who think this space would better suit an overstuffed arm chair and ottoman.
Seems to me that by the time you got over that foot board and into the bed, you'd need a nap from the effort.
I had a studio apartment that I loved with a bedroom setup quite like this. I had a walk-in closet with two doors (on adjoining walls), and it just fit my full-size bed inside- there were about 4" on each side between the bed and the wall. I LOVED sleeping in there- it was so cozy and cocoon-like. It was also great that I could just close the closet doors when people came over and entertain quite easily in my studio apartment! I always hated it when people sat on my bed when living in other studios.
Three of these in one room seems like a very wonderful place for little cousins to stay up all night and whisper and tell their dreams.
But definitely a kid thing! I'm way too old to get over the footboard, never mind changing the sheets (unless the beds are on wheels, which would be great too)
SO JEALOUS! That looks so cozy!
I agree with the claustrophobia camp, but for a child or a guest bed it'd be a perfect use of an otherwise useless space.
Plus if it DOES cause claustophobia in adults, it'll ensure that your houseguest doesn't outstay his or her welcome!
I don't think I'd last 5 minutes in a space that small. For a kid it would be fine...I'd rather have a comfy chair with an ottoman.
"Super skinny bed" ? In my day, we called that a "single bed."
in college, I spent one year in the dormer of my sorority house. Several of the girls did this and loved it. They added a curtain at the end for a little privacy.
