Doug at Tracery Interiors in Alabama wants to share with you the renovation he did to his vintage 530ft² bungalow. You can feast your eyes on all the creative storage solutions in this small space after the jump.
The kitchen is full of Carrara marble, stainless steel, and white-painted surfaces, the result of which is a clean space with lots of little tricks to make the 8 x 10 foot room feel larger. Glass-fronted upper cabinets reveal white dishware and storage in pretty jars. The glass adds some visual space to the room, as opposed to solid cabinets looming above the tiny area. On the blank side of the range Doug has created simple shelves for his spices and wine glasses. An antique wooden crate at the foot of the dining table holds snacks in lieu of a pantry.
In the bathroom, an arched ceiling above the tub expands the space vertically. It is meticulously fitted with posh Carrara tiles. To save cash after all that detailing, Doug cut matching 12 x 12 inch marble tiles in half to create a wainscot for the rest of the room.

beautiful. I am jealous of its simple beauty.
Nicely done.
How sad is it though that I have three full baths in my home and this one is still bigger than any of them?
Love it - Now add some color/flowers/yellow?
Alabama representin'
love it. who knew there was something cool to look @ in alabama?
There are many cool things to look at in Alabama... I'm looking forward to seeing more!
wow....what a wonderful kitchen and bath....would love to see the rest of the place!
Usually I like a pop of color here or there....but I like this...
just the way it is.
really beautiful.
It's lovely, but I didn't catch many of those "creative storage solutions"...
So fine.
i want to see more! please!
I want to see the whole bungalow. That bathroom alone...*SWOON*
From a loyal Alabama reader, I LOVE this and hope to see more from my home state!
Love the arched ceiling in the bath alcove.
Nice! Simple and clean with personality. LOVE the bathroom!! Except I'm not sure if I want my towels on the toilet bowl... The tile work and arched ceiling in the bathroom are beautiful!!
sweet place. Didn't know they sold places that were just a bath & kitchen. Now that is bare bones livin'!
his blog is cool - nice pics of some other spaces in the home. Very well done!
I think they're on the toilet tank, not the toilet *bowl.*
That rug in the bathroom could not be more perfect.
Doug-- Your work deserves even better photography though... but that's a compliment!
I must, must see more of this place.
i like the clean lines but am missing some color....and the bathroom looks confused to me. beautiful marble ,glass and slate tiles but then something that looks like outdoor siding on the top half of the walls jarred me.
I like the idea of using tiny subway tiles all the way to the ceiling in the kitchen. It's a wonderfully textured background to the plain blocks of white and silver in the cabinetry and appliances.
I like it. Cohesive.
love this.
Perfection in Alabama. Who knew?
hmm, don't love this except for the first amazing shot of the metal baskets on the metal island. It seems to have more character and ageless-ness.
Beautiful space.
What's with all the negative comments about Alabama?
Beautiful space! I don't know why people continue to be surprised that great design exists everywhere.
Awesome example of industrial modern design!
I like the kitchen and bath and I am sure that in 500 square feet, that is all that is there.
It's fabulous Doug. So clean and fresh. Love it.
