Maybe it's because the cold weather has swooped in so suddenly and unexpectedly; we're craving change in our home to prepare to hunker down. These dramatic dark decor ideas are sitting nicely with us right now.
We've mentioned before that we aren't afraid of color, but after looking at all of these inspirational dark rooms - we're realizing that our home doesn't have dark colors. While there's nothing wrong with having a bright, sunny home- we're ready for change.
Interior Designer Kishani Perera seems to know all the secrets to creating successful rooms using dark decor and paint. Failed attempts could leave rooms feeling like low-rate log cabins; but these rooms are rich, powerful and dramatic.
We wouldn't have imagined that a Dark Forest Green would work so well in a bedroom (or any other room for that matter), and we're really impressed. The dark colors seem to transport us back to a different time and the furniture then keeps the room modern and grounded.

I love my dark rooms - they're cozy yet dramatic.
The rooms pictured are nice too, tho the mannequin in the corner of the bedroom in pic #3 would give me nightmares - reminds me of an episode of "Night Gallery"
I do like the first one. The only room that I've done dark is the bedroom, only occupied at night. During the day I'd find dark oppressive. Not to mention that there wouldn't be beautiful daylight for sewing and crocheting.
I have several dark rooms, with more to come. I initially only had one dark room, it's a purple/reddish deep brown in our office. It was great to study in, then husband turned it into a game room, so the color still works well. Our bathroom isn't as dark, but it's still a dark(er) brown for a tiny space. I like how cozy it feels. My craft room is all wood paneling, as well as the dining room. I have several dark samples (purple, blue, and rich dark neutrals) up on the dining room walls as I type, hoping to turn it into a romantic restaurant feel since we eat candle lit dinners in there as much as possible.
I plan to paint part of the woodpaneling the craft room a dark navy blue. The plan is to make it feel like I'm in a tree house and under the night sky since it's upstairs in a make-shift attic room. I cannot wait to finish them up along with The Cure!
The walls of my home are done in Benjamin Moore's Silhouette -- a deep chocolate grey. We have floor to ceiling, wall to wall windows that face east, and since we have a water view, I didn't want to spoil it with curtains. The dark wells keep me from needing sunglasses in the morning.
I've found that the key to making my home look cheerful is reflective surfaces -- I polish my wood, use glass where possible, and buy metals muted tones.

My rooms are all on the darker side, even my kitchen! I love them and, since we get a lot of sun, it's never gloomy, just dramatic! My workplace is bright and white so I like coming home to something different.
I've gone dark, too! My one and only bathroom is a deep greenish teal, with off-white/goldish accents. Looks cool. Also, I have painted my kitchen walls - the ones that aren't covered in that 70's wood cabinetry - deep apple green (Ben Moore Dill Pickle). That is also the color I put in my 12ft long hallway.
Take the leap and do it!
I just added "Weimeraner" (Benjamin Moore) on accent walls to give my small space a sense of dimension. Am toying with adding another even deeper accent wall in either black or charcoal. The other walls are Edgewood Gray. Colors of any kind pratically leap off darker colors. Maybe it IS a fall thing?
I love dark colored rooms and have been slowly painting my rooms so they're no longer the pink flesh tone the previous owner had painted. My bedroom is black, closet room is dark brown, front living room is dark blue, kitchen is dark purple, and dining room is dark teal. i love it! Can't wait to add more dark rooms to the mix
I am looking to paint my room a dark navy/gray color and am looking for suggestions as to what paint color to buy... any ideas? Something as dark as the last picture but with more of a navy hue running through it.
