The color isn't the one we'd choose for our own home, but this concept is so cool. High ceilings like the ones in this loft leave normal-height doors looking rather, well, normal. So what about playing them up with some ceiling-height drapery?...

These drapes immediately enlarge the doors, drawing the eyes to the 11' ceiling heights. We loved the idea when we saw it played out in this Soho loft designed by Lavender and Plum. Here, they've used the treatment on an elevator door and another interior door on the same wall. Not only do we love this for so-so doors in high-ceiling-ed spaces, but it's a great solution for elevator doors that open directly into a loft space.

How luxurious! Great idea.
Ooh! Where are those chrome coffee table pieces from?
I also love the coffee tables but the rest of the space is a little too frilly for me (cringing). I prefer curtains in lieu of doors or at least the doors open behind the curtains.
Hate the example. It is too girly, fussy, '80s soap opera for me.
I agree with the comment above: curtains on doorways look better sans doors. I also think the scale and style has to be a consideration. Taller doorways or ones with interesting shapes (rounded or arched) seem to lend themselves better to this kind of treatment.
Curtains or doors. Belt or suspenders. Pick one.
Ooh, that sofa is so cool!
@Lisa--
I agree - Portieres can be great for archways, but in front if doors it's redundant.
(...like people saying into their cellphones, "Where are you at?")
The columns ruin it all.
Kind of cool, I guess, but I'd prefer if something was done with the wall above the door. Without that it kind of looks to me like a little kid wearing big-person shoes.
Wow, talk about the antithesis of my personal taste... I feel kind of itchy!
I think draperies NEXT to doors, hanging straight (not pulled back) might be interesting in some settings, but not many. It's a bit too theatrical for most roomos I have seen...
rooms.
sigh.
not my thing personally. I prefer cutains with windows only.
I don't agree with any of you! I think this space is amazing! It's not everyone's taste, but as a single girl in the city it's a dream space!
Dramatic, clean, fresh, bold. Not for shrinking violets. I love it!
