Admit it: you play the lottery game. I play the lottery game. We ALL play the lottery game from time to time. Sitting around with friends and dreamily listing all the purchases we’d make if multiples of millions fell into our laps is part of the human condition. (Wait, did you think I meant actually playing the lottery? No way, I’m far too practical for that!)
Since homes and travel are two of my greatest passions, most of my imaginary windfall goes toward property in far-off places. If you’ll allow me to indulge, here are five properties currently on my dream shopping list…
My London Base
First up, I’d need a base in my hometown. Nothing fancy, just a couple bedrooms, somewhere East-but-still-central, with a garden and a bit claw foot tub to soak in at the end of the day. This charming-as-anything end of terrace in De Beauvoir Town should do. Bliss.
My Parisian Pied-a-Terre
For those weekends when I just want to escape London, you know? An apartment in a traditional Haussmanian building would do me nicely, perfectly situated for walks along the Seine, shopping in the Marais and browsing des brocantes. I've always fancied designer Joseph Dirand's apartment; maybe he'll sell it to me?
My Italian Villa
Paris may be my favourite city in the world, but Italy is definitely my favourite country. So it’s only natural that I’d invest in a little place for relaxing amid the olive groves, dining al fresco and generally enjoying la dolce vita. Puglia would be my region of choice, but I’d settle for this newly made over villa in Le Marche.
My Marrakesh Party Pad
Ok, so I’ve never been to Morocco (it’s on the very top of my list), but I feel 100% confident in saying that with properties like this, it’ll be right up my alley. Maybe I’ll just buy the incredible Riad el Fenn hotel; this place is just begging for a pool party, don’t you think?
My Canadian Retreat
My parents will be relieved to see that one of my property investments would be back home in Canada, so I can re-connect with my roots whenever the mood strikes. Cottage country is sacred to this Ontario girl, but as see-and-be-seen Muskoka just isn’t for me, my dream cottage would be tucked next to a tiny lake in Gatineau, Quebec. I’ve always fancied a bit of prefab, so perhaps one of these Form & Forest designs (shown here in BC) would do the trick.
Please tell me I'm not the only person who does this! Where would your dream properties be?
