These storage designs by London's John Minshaw are over-the-top custom, undoubtedly with equally over-the-top price tags. There are built-in dressing room shoe shelves with lighting for each pair, a custom kitchen cutlery drawer with inlays for each knife, and a bathroom vanity with a beveled mirror finish. This type of storage looks like an absolute dream, but it's simply not attainable for many of us. Click below for some affordable, do-able Apartment Therapy alternatives...

Shoes are simply the worst thing in the world.
I will add the day's first grumpy comment. Really, my pairs of shoes do not need separate, fine wood, illuminated compartments. Instead of creating such a rarified ambiance for them, I'd give the big money they cost to Doctors without Borders, or the ASPCA. Whose value as a human being needs such rarified ambiance to prove it? Bah. Humbug.
Doea anyone know where i can get that rug under the Shauna's DIY Dresser?

Wow what a great person ^
I don't want to see my shoes or folded shirts and stuff...
my solution for a walk-in closet was to use Ikea kitchen cabinets. The can go as cheap or as expensive as you want it, since the price fluctuation is based on the finish you choose for the doors and side panels.

btw, I think that AT really needs a discussion forums type of format... a place where people can share, help and post pictures.... just my 2¢.

blueantstudio.com and now, chairwhore.com LOL!
Sure the spotlit shoe shelves is rather excessive - but consider that the person who owns this probably does give generously to charities (most do) and kept a carpeter or two and an electrician employed for weeks if not months to create this.
I think the roll-out shelves for shoes is rather clever - I wonder if I can integrate that into my existing PAX (My shoes currently reside in double-rows on fixed shelves behind the wardrobe door)

Cragislist - It's discontinued WestElm.
You make good points, bepsf, about the spotlit shoe shelves. My grumps are a little tamped down!
