A few years ago we read Tom Dixon's book Rethink. He reminded us how things can be used in unexpected ways and adapted to different contexts. So when we brought our favorite birdfeeder indoors last month to clean it, we temporarily hung it up, then we started using it...
We realized its a great place to put quarters for parking meters, tip money for the pizza delivery guy, and sometimes for the remote. Not to mention getting to look at that happy hermes-colored orange roof.
And finally, the squirrels won't get at it.

I can see hanging it near my front door as a landing strip for keys and change.
i'm already dropping too many things on the floor.
swinging/hanging exposed storage for change and tokens? no a great idea....particularly if children are present.
but if you're going to do it please change the cord to something more streamlined....like the unfrayed nylon in the middle photo.
Why not?....because just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Well, maybe it would be ok if it was highly decorative. This one isn't, it's just something hanging from the ceiling.
I think I prefer the good ol' change jar.
All day, I've been trying to think of what that could have been used for, hanging up inside, without coming in to the thread proper...
The ONLY thing I could come up with was an ashtray. Which would require one of two stupid things...
1. Standing on the sofa to use it (not very convenient)
2. Lying on the sofa, and just flicking your ashes up in the air with great hope (convenient, yet sets the sofa on fire)
By the way, spending $85.00 on a bird feeder to hang inside above the sofa, to hold $2.00 of quarters isn't that smart either.
It IS good to think of new uses for things you can't use in the original way. But some items just don't lend themselves well to other purposes. Because it's a saucer with a roof.
It's just plain ugly indoors, I'm sure the birds like it outside though. Accept the fact some items will not make the crossover
Why not indoors? Because there are no birds there, and this is a birdfeeder.
