The other day we got to see Martha Stewart's craft room - it was immaculate... and frankly, a wee bit scary. For a space with a lot more character and soul, we'll take this artist's studio, instead.
Artist, mom, and "Maker of Things" d. Sharp recently posted these photos of her spiffed up studio on her blog. Sigh... we're inclined to believe that true luxury is a big can of perfectly sharpened pencils (but maybe that's just us).
Look for more shots of the studio in an upcoming issue of Where Women Create magazine.

Nomade Express Slee...
Wow. I just whimpered aloud. That honeycomb storage things is fabulous! I wonder if I could make a version out of tin cans??
i love the honeycomb storage as well. it is made out of corrugated metal. i found a plastic version in the same shape. i couldn't find any metal ones, but i assume it's something you could find at the hardware store.

Fantastic, useful space.
I covet!
All I have for a studio at the moment is just a corner of the office, containing my drafting table and boxes of supplies.
Someday I will have a room like this. Someday.
my dream...
No I pretty much agree about the pencils...I want a tin of perfectly sharpened pencils. And I rarely USE pencils. But I still want it...
Oh! The honeycomb is small! I thought those were rolls of fabric in the bins! That would have made it wall sized.
although this has been cleaned up for photos, it's pretty clear this is a real working space. Brava!
Nice pencil can!
I wonder if she shops at Ikea often? 8^)
wow, thank you AT!
I wish I had bought the other 2 honeycombs at that rummage sale! {sadly, that sale gets more expensive every year} I think I could have sold them many times over. It is riveted tin - used for bottles at a winery.
Me thinks the said Honeycomb Storage Unit (which is brilliant BTW!)- is made from sections of "gutters'-
Snipped with TinSnips and drilled and Pop-Riveted together.
If not - that would be another method of making those from "off the shelf" galvanized metal
(as opposed to Custom fabrication!)
i suspect those are "golfing pencils" used for score keeping. they usually come in a box of 50 or so.. pre-shapened.
BUT, they are stubby and suck to draw with. good for making short lists though.
@antimatt: Or just looking cool in a canister, right?
Nice space! I wish I had that much room in my place to set up a studio, because how could you NOT want to spend all of your time in that area?
I like that honeycomb holder as well - I'd be willing to bet you could find a metal working shop that would be willing to make one for you for fairly cheap...
that honeycomb idea is what i was thinking about in the cut-a-glass-bottle-with-a-string post. you could cut wine bottles top and bottom, and use them that way. heavy if you use a lot and want to hang them, but not if they were in some kind of frame on a tabletop.
