Interior designer April Tidey splits her time between urban Vancouver, B.C., and Savary Island on the Sunshine Coast. In addition to gorgeous pictures of both spaces, the Canadian House and Home article also has a couple of Tidey's styling tips, including shopping in person and not refinishing old furniture, opting at times to leave original patinas and upholsteries as-is.

I think the first one is a little rough and ready for me. I get that it's a loft but I don't think I would want the cinder block, exposed floor-joists and wires overhead, feels like an unfinished basement. I'm all for exposed brick and cement floors and visible ductwork, but maybe that's conditionng and I'm just used to seeing all of that.
Anyone know where I can find a couch like the one in the last picture, please???

Ugh... those cinder block walls are oppressive.
I think that these two places are both beautiful. I'm way more attracted to the sunshine coast cabin however because it feels more comfortable. The other two commentators are right about the loft, it feels unfinished rather than industrial.
I love the cabin!!! It has such a happy atmosphere and there is so much color and life!

I can say first hand that both these homes are welcoming, warm, inventive and inspiring. Even the loft, cinder block and all! I may be biased because I share a similar aesthetic, but I think she has a great eye and creates unique tactile environments that are very inviting. There were so many shots to choose from, so this is just a tiny slice of the big picture...the cabin setting is a dream.
