Most folks and especially when it comes to kids, do better when there's a goal to reach or competition to be won. This modern piggy bank runs with that idea and makes savings a challenge against yourself or a sibling. Did we mention the price is pretty awesome as well?
This DUEL piggy bank retails for $39 over at Sleek Identity and we're thinking that's a great price for an item that's sure to retain your children's interest even past their teens.
The unit is cast in porcelain and can be written on. This allows you to write fun things to help you remember what you're saving for. Maybe part of their chore money goes to a local church, maybe they're saving for a Wii, possibly even a new puppy or even just saving against a sibling. You can erase it at any time and put something new in once the current goal is reached. As more money is added it rocks to the side that weighs the most, giving kids a visual representation of who's "winning."
To check out how much change has been shoved inside, you simply remove the red band from the outside of the unit. You can easily get at the change so there's no additional shaking, making this a rather safe bank with a low risk of breakage (we've lost a few pigs along the road to savings).

OK, I'm anal about everything, I know, but the last thing I want to start teaching my children is that we should have a contest to see who can have the most money.
I would have to agree with that, Puella. And $39 for a change bank - how is that a "great" price? I personally couldn't justify spending money on this particular object.
Wait, $39 is a great price? Our savings is in a jar. It was free with the purchase of spaghetti sauce.
Haaaaaaahaha, eeka. I was going to mention that too. I made my daughter a "save, spend, share" set of banks--from glass jars that were once filled with pureed tomato. If you spend $39, it's going to take awhile just to break even!
Hahaha eeka I love that. I get that it's a cool exciting design and therefore share-worthy on Oh Dee Doh, so thanks AP that was really cool. But in real life, nope, two jars and a trip to the coin-counter at the bank are unbeatable.
I love the idea of different jars puella! Man I can never have enough jars but I refuse to spend $3 on canning jars at WalMart :P And I make my own sketti sauce so I really need to start finding more jarred vegetables haha.
