On the heels of the success of Annette's Modern DIY Outdoor Planter is Dustin's simple idea for, ahem, raising the bar in the garden, using simple materials to create height and some drama in a small outdoor space.
Dustin used Gainey cylinders (which you can buy locally in LA at Potted) but you could use any pot. He used galvanized pipe in different lengths with one end that can screw into a flange and then the flange it screws into to raise up each of the containers. He drilled the flange into the bottom of the pot with a masonry bit, added two drainage holes on either side and that's it.
This installation was done for a young couple who needed a quick solution for their garden before they got married in it. Once the containers grow in, the cascading plants will look like sculptures in the garden and help compliment their small outdoor space with some height without having to buy full grown plants.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Finally, a great idea to keep the squirrels out of my planters! These will be in my garden next summer.
Big fan of the Gainey stuff, and I like how he used the stands to raise them off the ground. Oh also, you can pick up cylinders directly from Gainey. They have an outdoor lot in La Verne but with limited availability for items. Am told this is somewhat of a secret for the locals =)
Gainey has a seconds yard at their La Verne plant where you can get stuff super cheap. Only problem is they don't usually have a lot to choose from. They do not sell directly to the public (other than the seconds) so you'd have to go through some place like us, Potted, for a better selection. But it's totally worth drive to check it out.
