When the topic of gliders arises, the name Dutailier is sure to come up. The 35-year-old Montreal area company has sold more than 5 million gliders, primarily to new parents. Their gliders get high marks in comfort, quality and affordability, but often score low in the design department; i.e. tolerable for the nursery, but not fit for the living room. Looking to change that perception, Dutailier has released updated glider designs and an appealing collection of nursery furniture.
The new furniture lines have fruity names - mango, papaya, pomelo and melon - and include cribs that convert to twin beds, upholstered chairs, dressers, night tables and twin beds. They've already begun shipping to stores and appearing on a few consumer websites (like Cana Bee Baby if you want to check out the prices).
Dutailier holds many glider-related patents and we're glad to see the company has listened to consumers and begun to focus more on design and aesthetics.

How nice that they are finally offering more design savvy pieces! I have a Dutalier glider (in maple and denim, no less--surely that tells something about when my first was born), and it's unattractive, but oh so comfortable. I just moved it into the basement, now that my youngest is two and I don't sit in it so often, but I've had it forever and am a little sentimental and can't bring myself to get rid of it just yet. I do wish it looked cooler so I could put it somewhere else in the house.
This is nice they're finally offering more modern choices but for their gliders- I just can't stand wood and fabric ones and that seems to be all they make. I wanted one of their gliders but just find that style so ugly. We ended up with a fully upholstered one we love.
Oh MAN, where was this 6 years ago???? I had the "your mama's version." So comfy. SO ugly. Sigh.... love these modern versions!!
@JMORRI26 their new fully upholstered chairs have the option to become gliders which is nice.
Julia's Bookbag- exactly what I was thinking! Except I ended up skipping the dutalier and getting an ikea chair. You mamas-to-be are lucky!
Well, Amen. For real.
Why is it that "better design" so often means "less comfortable"?
Ah well. Can't be helped. Kind of like how you can have gorgeous shoes, or amazingly comfortable shoes, but not both. :P
Dang...my kids arrived only THREE years too early. :)
If you live in Toronto, you can find their new line at Moms to be and More exclusively! I love it so very much!
