One of the best parts about ABC is seeing new or new-to-the-US companies and one of the most exciting this year was Netherlands-based Nuna. The designs are smart and thoughtful and the aesthetics are sparsely beautiful.
The first three products they're bringing to the North American market are:
The ZAAZ begins life as a high chair (with a 5-point harness) and ends as...just a chair. It accommodates up to to 220 lbs! The tray is removable so a baby or child can be pulled right up to the table if you wish. The footrest folds down for older kids and the height is fully adjustable.
LEAF baby seat:
This chair, whose shape resembles a leaf, is somewhere between a bouncy chair and a swing. It has no batteries or sounds, but if you pull it in one direction, the chair will gently swing back and forth for about three minutes. It's a nice compromise for parents who don't want electronic gizmos, but would like some movement. But it may require too much, ahem, babysitting if you're looking for constant movement. The top fabric removes easily for laundering.
SENA (and SENA mini) travel crib:
The best features of this crib (or "cot" in Euro lingo) are the one-handed folding strap and how easily it converts to an easier-to-reach bassinet height. I'm a fan of the simple, gender neutral modern style which I'm dubbing "sophisticated sporty."
The ZAAZ, LEAF and SENA are available for pre-order and will ship by January 1st. Coming next (not shown) are the PEPP stroller and PIPA car seat.
I liked this line from the company's website: "Nuna is a company built on a single promise: that baby products should take some of the work out of being new parents, so people can actually enjoy being new parents."
