In the archives of Dwell, architect Kyu Sung Woo renovated his son Wonbo's Union Square loft taking advantage of natural light and the 12 feet of vertical space — he stacked a minimal loft sleeping platform above the compact kitchen.
The space measures less than 700 square feet and is only 12.5' wide! By compacting the kitchen bathroom and bedroom in a small fraction of the space, the rest of the apartment seems spacious. My favorite element is the metal ladder-like stairs by Lapeyre Stair.

This is very cool, and the article does a good job explaining how the architect figured out the "puzzle" of the space.
Cool place but I don't like the ladder. It also doesn't seem to have been very well planned out considering how many storage containers are stacking in the living room.
Stacked I mean. Me speak English me promise.
Chidog - those aren't storage containers...they're Cubitec shelving: http://www.dwr.com/product/cubitec-shelving-10.do?keyword=cubits&sortby=ourPicks
Beautiful and a great use of space!
this is one of my favorites. Genius!
Those stairs/ladders make me nervous. I could definitely see me wiping out during a 3am bathroom excursion.
really a great space but i wouldn't consider that a second bedroom by any means!
pinstripeprincess - it's the only bedroom! it's a studio loft!
This is so well done. I'm all admiration for the architect.
I really don't see what's wrong with the bedroom or the stairs.
love the stairs. given me lots of ideas for renovation.
This is really an amazing use of the space! I especially like the lucite or glass side so it does not block off and feel solid. great job!!
