The couple and their 3 children use the home on weekends and they also rent it out by the night. Because of the constant stream of guests, it was furnished with modern basics — think Craigslist, IKEA, CB2 and Room & Board.

lovely!
A great place. However in my world Room & Board is a "luxury", not a "basic".
Amen coggs, Room &Board isn't cheap or "basic" by any means
I stayed here not long ago and loved it. It's oh so beautiful, and in a great setting. The hill slope is so steep all the windows look DOWN on the trees; you feel like you're living in a tree house.
1900 square feet? That's twice the size of my full-time residence. I guess it just goes to show that one person's "modest" is another person's "massive."
Gorgeous. But since when does 1,900 sq. ft. constitute modest???
People - for a family of 5, 1,900 is NOT that big!
It's not the brand that is being referenced as a basic, it's the furniture pieces, regardless of where they came from.
"People - for a family of 5, 1,900 is NOT that big!"
By what/who's standards? Yes, as a primary residence it's relatively modest, and Yes, it's a very nice place - I could easily imagine this in an urban/infill setting...
...but in many non-trust-funded people's eyes, there's no such thing as a "Modest" $300,000 1900 Sq/Ft custom vacation "cabin" on a 30-acre lot.
Perception of your audience is key, Aaron - Without using that word (The article and homeowners didn't even use that word) I doubt you'd have this uproar.
Wonderful!
