The team at Dwell Magazine sent out word of a big upcoming redesign of the magazine starting from the February '08 issue. Editor in Chief Sam Grawe (one of our past Smallest Coolest Judges) and Design Director Kyle Blue are updating the publication inside and out. New editorial features include "Theme Attic" where Dwell asks artists, designers, and architects, to interpret the issue theme, and "Process" which will break down how everyday products in the home are created. Existing regulars like "Off the Grid", "My House" and "In the Modern World" will all be revamped. From a graphics perspective, the magazine will sport a brand new cover design with larger masthead; interior photos will run full bleed, and a new selection of fonts will complete the design refresh. Print manufacturing receives a green sheen, with a move to recycled content paper, soy-based inks and changing the trim width from 9" to 8.375", saving about 930 trees per issue with the new size. Nice move, Dwell. We're holding back any yays or nays until we get our hands on a real issue, but in the competitive publication field (RIP Blueprint), we're excited to hear about the new coat of paint and redone floors one our favourite home design magazines will be sporting for the '08.
