I was tipped off to the fantastic Dallas, Texas non-profit Dwell with Dignity, by my sister who regularly volunteers, helping to turn low-income housing into the kinds of apartments anybody would be happy to call home.
According to their website, the mission of Dwell with Dignity is to "help families escape poverty and homelessness through design." They do this by working in conjunction with other local charities to help people — usually women and children — get back on their feet after some serious setbacks.
While Dwell with Dignity is inspiring for their philanthropic mission, it's also worth noting the extreme creativity and excellent design that goes into their projects — most furnished and decorated with a hodge-podge of donated goods. It's easy to decorate an empty room with a few trips to the mall and a call to your painter! What the volunteers at Dwell with Dignity manage to do with so little is what is truly amazing.
