9:45am - What gives? Go ahead, try it: www.dwr.com. Much ado about nothing. Our apologies. A cached copy from yesterday kept coming up. But, you know, it's just one of those NYC reactions - you come home and see the restaurant across the street is strangely closed and you immediately wonder, "is something wrong?" 50% of the time it's a holiday you didn't know about, and the other 50% of the time something's afoot...
From yesterday: Being the Web Watchdog. It's 3:57, why can't I shop? But seriously, as we were going to browse DWR's site, we found it totally down with the image at left. This NEVER happens. For that reason alone we found it interesting. We wonder how long it will last and how many they'll lose because of this. Someone's going to get yelled at tomorrow...

I wish we had an "Apple, Inc." of home design. Where we can speculate on rumors and new goodies every time the site go down.. One can only dream.
Nice find Maxwell. I hope someone didn't loose their job!
p.s. I <3 my Knoll Barcelona chairs..
How funny, this was just vexing me as I tried to assemble pics of all our furniture for the style tray. What the heck, DWR?
Wow, I've got to be honest with you here - is this newsworthy? I wonder how many don't care, besides me, of course.
It's a big week at the U.N. Perhaps it's mid-century modern terrorism?
I think you're right anne--if DWR had been down for a day or two it might have been news, but as it is I don't see the big deal. Sites go down now and then, and they're usually back up fairly quickly unless a server has a serious problem.
Anyhow, fifteen minutes later and DWR was back up, no problem.
Sometimes maintenance has to get done. 4 a.m. on a Monday wouldn't be the time I'd choose, but it's not unheard of. Some sites have redundant sites they can rollover to, but not all, or maybe there was a network problem into their service center, etc., which they wouldn't have any control over.
We're all so used to 24/7 service now (I know because I support these kinds of sites) but nothing's perfect. I agree with "harlie" who said it might have been news if it had been down for a day or more...maybe... but I don't mind coming back later if there's a brief downtime.
What surprises me more is retailers who don't really have fully functioning web sites at all. I can't think of any examples of course(!) but it's very bothersome when I am wanting to look at a product line or place an order only to find out an established vendor barely even has info available.
*yawns*
It's up as of 9:48 am. And I agree -- a site going down is no big deal unless it's down for days.
wierd. we keep getting the down on one computer and up on another. sorry to make a big deal out of nothing. it must be a cached copy!
Actually, sunday night/monday morning around 4am is a time when many website do maintanence. I've been burned trying to deal with banking issues and having the "We will be down for maintanence between 1-4am" message come up.
when in doubt, clear your cache.
