It seems it wasn't very long ago when the fashion in furniture was to buy whole-room, matching furniture sets. We remember going to department stores with our parents and picking out a matching dresser, bed and two night stands. While matching modern furniture sets certainly still exist today, they seem to be less popular.

Folks seem to really want to create highly personal spaces with a slightly eclectic vibe, with the trend leaning toward creating furniture pairs that pop and create a dynamic duo in a space. We spotted quite a few of these couples in recent house tours; furniture pieces that, while not made by the same manufacturer, share some awesome element in common or have a similar shape, making them more powerful as a pair than alone.
