Here's a great inexpensive solution for people with little time, or little space for vegetable gardens. This storage container garden, called the EarthTainer, utilizes the principle of capillary action to provide automated watering, giving the plant only as much water as it needs, thus saving water and preventing runoff. Because of the use of storage bins the project would be great for the urban gardener.
Because the system is self-contained, there is virtually no wasted water and a reduction of weed growth. Unlike in-ground gardening, this unit is portable so that the pots can follow the sun throughout the growing season.
The EarthTainer is available as 'freeware' – the construction guide and instructional videos are available at the EarthTainer website.
