What inspired you to use color? We wanted to use colors to create a welcoming, relaxed space that still had a bit of sophistication. Darker colors like deep brown, navy and olive are mixed with a bright orange to create some contrast and help divide the space. We find our color inspiration by living in New York, things we pick up at thrift stores, 60s style, nature, art and photography...
Color Tip: Thrift store finds are a fantastic and cheap way to add a pop of color to your space and make it uniquely yours.
Colors Used: Behr Tiger Stripe, Benjamin Moore Midnight Navy
Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------
Welcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...
1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide
The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.
2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop
Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.
Best, Maxwell

I really like the dark browns with the olive sofa in the living room area. Nicely done!
Really love the colors and tones here. It manages to feel rich and relaxed at the same time.
We've just met the winners. This place is gorgeous.
This place is really swanky and warm and actually understated. I am really digging this place. I especially love how you have mixed pieces and sexed up some Ikea and Target finds. Bravo!!!
Nice place, but it strikes me as rather drab (then again, I'm not a brown fan).
I think the brown is cozy and soothing and there are plenty of exciting things to look at. Great job.
I love the stripes in the bathroom
great stripes in the bathroom. this place looks great, and also totally accessible. this is what AT should be about. great job. I'm curious where in Bklyn...
amazing space
I really love your place. The arrangement on the wall near the desk (with the painted brown rectangle & the round mirror/frames arrangement) is just stunning. Your place looks warm & inviting, bravo!
Beautifully done, both glam and understated, plus a sense of humor too (love the tree curtains -- especially if those are fake windows but maybe I just imagine that).
very nice! i'm not usually a fan of neutral colors but this is gorgeous.
The stripes! In the bathroom! I think you just gave me a new idea for what I'm going to do in my bathroom when I tire of the color that is in there now. Or I could force my sister to do it in hers :-)~ I tend to be more of a color person, but I am certainly enjoying your space...nice work!
I've been trying to do the same thing with my studio! Except I actually used tiger stripes....too much? Anyways, nice place!
Oh, heh, I'm getting a kick out of the fact that we have some of the same stuff..like using a Lack console table to plop our flat screens on (even though I can't seem to accessorize it to look intentional...it always looks like I accidentally left that vase or that book or that candle there...yours looks great)...and the tree panels from Ikea..love those...I'm jeolous that they actually worked as window panels for you.....I tacked mine over the sofa because they looked weird on my windows...and don't tell me...is that the York sofa from R&B? Was gonna pick that one up too until I decided on the Petrie from C&B :) No wonder I enjoy your space so much :D
I love it! Soooo jel!
Wow! This looks amazing! The colors are fantastic! Well done!
i love the bathroom.
TRÉS CHIC !!!
I don't like beige & brown, but this space is beautiful
This is my favorite entry so far. I love neutrals and you have really transformed this space to make it look so natural and inviting.
Very sophisticated and inviting... it's modern, casual and appealing... a place you'd want to hang out in. The use of earth tones in really modulated and not at all expected or boring. (The stripes in the bathroom are inspired!) This is the most pulled together of all of the apartments here. Bright colors look great in pictures but in person they can look juvenile and often cheap. This is a rich, luxe look in a rental!
I'm really fond of this one. It is warm and clean, but isn't austere.
i am so jealous of the people that get to live here!
I love the bathroom stripes!!!
I love your place! The use of a bold pattern with neutral colors in the bathroom is great. Also love the photos and framed art throughout the place...looks especially great in the bathroom and with the mirror in the living room. Speaking of (as someone else said) "bravo," when are you two applying to be on "Top Design"?!
This is so me :). All the colors that a love in the same place!
Seeing as how this contest is called Fall Colors, I didn't see another apartment that even came close to this brilliant use of using uniquely fall colors -- especially those "drab and dreary" browns and beiges -- and making them pop in the most unexpected places. That pumpkin orange is a particularly inventive use of color, and looks great against the stark white cabinets.
I know Fall Colors isn't necessarily meant to be taken literally, but there I didn't see another apartment here that puts a refreshing spin on the old concept of autumnal tones and makes them sumptuous.
I love this palette. These are excellent photos to share with male friends who embark on assembling their new apartment. Usually it's beige this and beige that -- but these rooms are masculine yet so cozy. And the personal touches -- a ball of twine next to a pile of books, the mini pumpkins, the long portrait of a woman from behind -- are playful and give the room personality.
LOVE IT ALL.
very nice use of dark colors in a tight space. you guys did a great job.
This looks like a great space to work, relax or gather with friends. The color palette is warm and welcoming while all of the personal touches make the room interesting and exciting. I love the inspiration behind the paint in the bathroom and the use of a coin cup as part of the decor makes me smile.
great work, guys!
This place is beautiful yet I think it lacks personality and spontaneity.
how beautiful!!
awesome apartment! hope you two win!!! xo
Wow it is beautiful; love what you have done with the space and use of colors; very inviting....
Beautiful place!!
Beautiful and modern! Love the way they have used color, and the black and white wallpaper brings drama to an otherwise ordinary bath. Great!
Very nice, love the look. I would like to know where you purchased the picture of the women, or who is the artist.
