Last year we posted a preview of Austin's annual East Austin Studio Tour (E.A.S.T.) that takes the city's best art offerings and condenses them all into one weekend of amazing creativity and fun. This year's tour is going to be the biggest and best yet!
We had the opportunity to attend Art Night Austin E.A.S.T., the official preview party of the East Austin Studio Tour, last night and believe us when we tell you 2009's E.A.S.T. is going to be epic. Featuring an unprecedented 154 artist studios, this year's tour stretches over two weekends, with tons of events and programs occurring during the week.
You'll be able to visit, for free, artist studios on the weekends November 14th-15th and November 21st-22nd, from 10am - 5pm each day. Twenty exhibition spaces, like Domy Books, Okay Mountain Gallery, Art Palace, Co-Lab, Pump Project Art Complex, and Space 12 (to name a few) will feature even more art and expanded hours throughout the week.
This year's tour will also feature happenings melding art, installation, music, landscapes, food, and even grammar. Thirty programs will connect viewers closer to the art through discussions and demonstrations held at various locations throughout the week.
Rather than try to give some sort of list of our favorites (an impossible task) we recommend you visit the E.A.S.T. website and pick up one of their amazing catalogs (available at Cafe Mundi, East Side Pies, Women and Their Work, Justine's, Jerry's Artarama and Domy Books). Even if you aren't in Austin for this tour, you'll want to check out the website for all the good-looking art!
Will you be going to this year's tour? Did you go to last year's tour? Are you a participating artist? Let us know!
