Sure, you've got the motivation to finally tackle that mess of cords behind your TV or under your desk. But when you head to the checkout with all of those amazing (read: expensive) uni-tasking cord control solutions, you might not have the cash. Instead, look around your pantry, laundry room, kids' toy bin and—yep—even the trash can to find ways to wrangle and label that mess of wires.

is that velcroed? that is a great idea itself.
I did this last year with cardboard toilet rolls and wrapping paper. Made a huge difference to my junk drawer!
I just put my extension cords (that aren't in use) in a plastic tub in the garage, so I don't need to "wrangle" them.
But if I did, one of the supermarkets where we sometimes buy produce uses green velcro bands (one side to contain heads of leaf lettuce, etc. Since these are too useful to throw away, I have some on hand (nice for staking plants in the garden, too, among other things). You might check your markets for the same thing...
Paper towel tubes work just as well but ain't as pretty.
