Entry mats are an important part of a green home because they help trap contaminants (from shoes, paws, etc.) that can be harmful to indoor air quality. While any brisk door mat might do, I love this DIY version because it's a functional and playful way to transition between indoors and out.
The DIY creation of Benita Larsson, she turned a length of coco husk mat from this:

...into this!

Only a few simple supplies are needed for this project and it's a great solution for homes with a small entry space.

Love the idea, but many entry doors open inwards, not out, and wouldn't fit over the mat. I believe the swing direction is supposed to prevent the door being blocked in case of emergency: if a tree falls on the doorstep, it's still possible to open the door.
OP: the hinges of your door are on the outside, and is a huge security issue. Someone can pop the hinges off and enter your space. We had this issue on the house we bought, had to install a new door and frame after we moved in.
Also, OP, a lot of homes in hurricane areas require doors to swing out by code, so that they don't blow into the house & offer more protection during a storm. But I agree with you, it would never fit under most doors. When we pull up our carpet though, there might be enough room. Regardless, cute project!
