A very elegant and simple design, the Eclipse Lamp caught our eye, reminding us of a nautilus. It consists of one piece of "plastic band" that rolls and unrolls around the thin wire frame. This louvering allows you to change the shape of the lamp and the flow of the light. When packed, the entire lamp is shipped flat in a box like a pizza. Designed by Brazilian designer, Mauricio Klabin, in 1982, it's hard to find, but available through
Objecto.

i have one and love it. the MOMA design store use to sell it but discontinued it. i bought mine off of ebay. i have mine hanging in the living room.
LOVE IT!!! They also have a "DISKO" lamp which is gorgeous. Retailers seem to be in Europe and Japan, though.
Bed Bath and Beyond sells something very similar for $20. We have it at home, and everyone who sees it loves it. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=13154929&RN=384
They have them at the Vitra store (one is hanging in the downstairs showroom). Good looking lamp.
This is the original Eclipse lamp created by Mauricio Klabin. Liz write about a vulgar chinese copy. No comparison ! The original is really much fun and beautiful ! I have contacted Objekto. The company is working on a sale network in USA for the Eclipse lamp ! Fun !
The famous Mauricio Klabin's Eclipse lamp is now available in US by DWR http://www.dwr.com
If you want the real thing buy one from the ORIGINAL DESIGNER: VERNER PANTON. Mauricio Klabin's is a complete knockoff so if you purchase one, make it through Vitra who carries the original designer's beautiful MOON LAMP.
