One of the most important design elements in a home is the lighting. From the outward appearance of the lamp to the type of light they emit, lamps can greatly impact the look and feel of a room. Testing out energy efficient bulbs for our Lightbulb Wars has me thinking about eco friendly lamps that will enhance your space without destroying the environment. Here are four of my favorite recent discoveries.

Vintage Retro Gooseneck Desk Lamp w/ Turquoise Color Cord, $135.00 by Earth Sea Warrior: Buying vintage is a great (and green) way to add chic pieces to your home. The Brooklyn boutique Earth Sea Warrior has taken this concept a step further by refurbishing vintage lamps and adding a bold pop of color in the form of a brightly hued cord. This modern take on an old design can be added to any existing lamp and for those of you who like a good DIY project, colorful lamp cords (without a lamp) can be purchased through Earth Sea Warrior's Etsy page.
Trash Me Lamp, $145.00 at MoMA: Fans of more modern design will appreciate the Trash Me lamp designed by Victor Vetterlein. The lamp is hand made from recycled egg cartons turned into paper pulp and weighted with recycled wood. Fastened with aluminum screw posts, the lamp can be disassembled and recycled.
Spit Shine Lamp, $380.00 by The Last Attempt at Greatness: Upcycling through transforming found objects is a popular design technique to make use of what might otherwise be discarded. While often fantastically creative, these kinds of designs can sometimes lack a certain sophistication. Artists and designers Sara Huston and John Paananen, the team behind Portland Oregon's The Last Attempt at Greatness have managed to merge the two in their Spit Shine lamp.
Crochet Light, $216.00 by Deep Dark Africa: Another wonderful example of upcycling, the Crochet hanging lamp is hand made from plastic shopping bags by artisans in Cape Town. Offering a soft warm light diffused through the multi colored plastic weaving, this lamp would be perfect above the dining room table for a relaxed feel.
