We recently had to kick our pup, Arlo, out of bed. Despite his tiny stature, he's confused about who wears the pants in the family. We heard that sleeping with your dog can make him feel a little too on par with you. So with great sadness, we gave him the boot. But our guy had grown terribly accustomed to a comfy crib so we felt compelled to get him something soft and cozy...
Although the Petco beds were cheaper, we didn't want to expose Arlo to unnecessary chemicals from his bedding any more than we prefer to be exposed to them from ours. After some research, we landed on a washable hemp bed filled with kapok made by Doggyarchy, a small eco company "governed by people governed by dogs" in Vail, Colorado.

And of course our little guy's bed had to match our ivory colored bedroom decor so we bought the Aspen bed which has a subtle cream and beige herringbone design. Remarkably, the light colored hemp seems to naturally repel dirt, so the bed stays a lot cleaner looking than Arlo does.
Postscript: Though we go our separate ways for the overnight, Arlo is invited into bed in the morning for a little snuggle before we start our day.
How about your pet's sleeping quarters? In bed or out? And what kinds of digs have you provided?

Do you seriously keep a water bowl in the bedroom?
Poor Arlo. Look at that face! what a cutie..
I don't know how you could resist not letting him sleep in your bed.. no wonder he gets morning cuddles!!
p.s. that pic by your bed of him is really sweet
omg - he is so cute and i love his underbite! adorable. I agree with the post above- don't know if i could resist him either.
Oh, Arlo is a cutie. Is he a bichon? He looks a bit like my Beatrix, whos is a bichon/shih tzu mix. She likes to go to sleep under our bed (even though we got her one of those little sheepskin rugs from Ikea) but usually ends up cuddled next to me in the morning. That little sneak creeps into the bed in the middle of the night!
Your little man looks very much like my little Maggie and I cannot resist her little face -- she sleeps in my bed. But interestingly, she has learned that I am a bit of a tosser and turner. To cope she has also taken to spending the mid to late part of the night (my most active?) in the laundry basket in my closet. I guess my skinky clothing is the next best thing.
But she always joins me in the moring and has a cuddle.
heheh I didn't notice the portrait on the table. Cute!
Arlo is soooo damn cute.
Ahhh My hubs and I are such snorers, flopers, turners, and shouters that our dog prefers his crate to us.
my cat sleeps with me in bed. if i didn't let him, there'd be hell to pay (i.e., he would NOT let me sleep). but that's ok, because i love snuggling with him! :-D
Arlo does look like he's suffering. :P
That bed is similar to floor cushions I have - no wonder the cats steal them when I get up.
Arlo is adorable! Bailey and Jager sleep with us, however in the summer, Bailey prefers to sleep on the extra tiles that I placed next to our bed to stay cool
LOL! The look on his face makes it seem as though you disturbed him! Precious!
Rufus sleeps next to our bed, somewhat like Arlo, and he also joins us for morning snuggles. He can't get up on our tall bed by himself, so all we see is two paws and his big boston terrier ears and we hoist him up.
What a little snugglemuffin! How could you kick him out of bed?
Although I have a dog bed on my bedroom floor, my bulldogs prefer to sleep on a fun orange shaggy raggy rug instead, but really, its their nature to sleep anywhere, anytime over anything.
Arlo's face is clearly saying "tell them to let me back in bed"
My dog used to start off next to me, and end up basically on top of my head. As a result, I've been sleeping with two pillows (one for me, one for him) for close to 20 years, and still do, even though he passed on over a year ago.
He had a long, pampered life.
dog's way too cute; i'd never be able to deny him anything.
Hello Arlo,
I hope your mom will share more adorable pictures of you with us!
Love,
Mal
