Furring is used to create non-load bearing partition walls, or as in insert between brick and concrete when hanging drywall. EcoStud furring is made from 100% recycled plastic and has some impressive efficiency properties: it has a low mess DIY installation, dampens sound, reduces thermal bridging and is light to transport.
The EcoStud system installs easier than standard wood: it requires no special tools and can be fastened with standard fasteners. It's also lightweight (3.5 pounds per piece compared with 7 to 8 pounds for wood or steel studs) and its rounded edges are safer to work with.
Since it's manufactured from 100% post industrial waste (plastic), it doesn't conduct heat very well. Because of that, it doesn't thermally bridge the exterior to the interior, which would allow heat or cold to work its way through traditional studs.
But since it's made from plastic, it creates less dust, and is great for use in flood prone environments (basements) because it is waterproof.
