We were really surprised to see that this EDEFORS glass-doored display cabinet from IKEA is made from solid oak! (Update: The frame is solid oak but the shelves and sides are oak veneered particleboard.) It's another one of our favorites from our trip to the new IKEA Brooklyn. The EDEFORS is great for displaying a collection in a small space because the sliding doors don't need additional clearance to open...

EDEFORS is made from a solid oak frame and oak-veneered shelves and sides. EDFORS has two fixed wooden shelves and four adjustable glass shelves. $470 from IKEA.

It's definitely nice, but at almost $500 I feel like you're starting to get out of the IKEA price range and can get something more unique or of higher quality elsewhere. But that's just me, I look at IKEA mostly as an opp for budget solutions.
strange question, but do you think this could work as an entertainment hutch (flatscreen on top, DVD player and cable box below)? I need something with glass so the kitties don't play with the buttons...
i see a lot of printed fiberboard and particleboard in the description.
Thanks Johnp...I've updated the post with more specific information.
I'm not sure where Aaron got the idea that is a solid oak piece. It's 95% particleboard.
The table from this line is solid oak.

It's lovely, but I have to agree with amt230 on the price. For $470 I could probably find a mid-century piece on craigslist that is' much cooler.
I agree with Monica.
I noticed while looking at bed frames this week online, that the new line of ikea products rolling out are much more expensive. I can understand they may want to have a nicer line of items, but they are known for budget items. This piece in particular above would be more attractive at $199.00. $470.00 is actually insulting.
dunno... that thing would be more tempting with a $100-199 price tag, after crossing the $450 line I'd expect the whole thing to be real wood, glass to be tempered and for all the joints to be more than just glued together.
Part of this admittedly high price must be the incredible weakness of the dollar. I think IKEA will be among the last to give in, but many many prices for new things will be higher. Hello craigslist (and re-sale value)!
i saw a great piece like this - but a little shorter - when walking past the touch last weekend on Valencia. I've recently admitted that ikea can have some worthy pieces but i would totally rather go for a solid wood or used furniture piece.
I wish it were more affordable, that is exactly what I have been looking for! Love the way it looks (would be great in black though).
I have owned one, and despite the little leg underneath the middle divider being height adjustable (the idea being, that it would provide a little more support), mine just ended up sagging in the middle, as a lot of IKEA mdf items seem to do. It looks nice, but really, just pay more and get a fully solid item. The silly thing about it is that the internal glass shelves are already heavy enough to cause the whole frame to sag, so it really doesn't take much more stuff stored within to start the sagging.
So disappointing.
