Edible decor is not a new idea by any means — check out Leah's Asparagus Centerpieces post — but bear with me for a minute. I came about this unoriginal idea because lately I've had this odd obsession with purple and even though they are now out of season, I have been thinking about how great eggplants would look in a centerpiece.
So I did some searching and either I am alone in this opinion (but just picture the varying shades of purple along with a white eggplant!) or eggplants just aren't sturdy enough to make a good centerpiece? For now I will have to settle for the fruits, vegetables and nuts that do make good centerpieces — only some of which will still be edible afterwords. Maybe next autumn while eggplants are still in season, I will try them as centerpieces.
