This weekend, the Walker Art Center & the Minneapolis Institute of Arts co-host a serious Eero Saarinen retrospective via the National. Saarinen's work will come to life from infamous chair to Arch via sketches, models, films, photos and ephemera, some of which hasn't been seen pre-exhibit.
The Walker will feature homes and furnishings plus churches, academic and corporate campuses. The MIA will present his work for airports, memorials, and embassies, plus his earliest work as part of its modernist design collection.
In addition to these shows, events include a 3-day symposium on Saarinen and his impact October 10-12, and a sadly sold-out lecture by his daughter Susan and Mark Coir, former Cranbook Archives Director this Sunday.
It kicks off with a Walker After Hours Preview event tonight at 9 pm.
