Q: I sometimes work from home in the living room. I use a laptop so I work most of the time on the dining table but I am looking for a simple and elegant solution to hide my rather bulky wireless printer and my files. Do you have any suggestion for a product that would hold both the printer and files and would blend in the decor?

Z2 iPod Dock and Wi...
We have found this to be a great solution - we can keep the laptop there when not in use, the printer and all of our files. When we are done it hides away nicely.

jmb235 gave you a really great choice but if it's out of your price range you can try a console from craigslist.org in a style you like. You can work on the top of the console and hide the equipment and wires inside. Often they are very well made and you can find anything from Jacobean to mid-century modern for under $100. Also, since it might be so cheap, you won't mind cutting holes in the back for your wires if you need to do so. Good luck.
We have the World Market desk too. It's a great solution. It's small when closed up, but has ample storage, and a nice sized keyboard tray. So, it makes a very functional computer desk when expanded.
But, it's definitely not well constructed. The doors don't hang straight and the drawers don't close without some jiggling. We noticed this on the display model, and we bought it fully knowing, because we couldn't find anything else that would fit our space. YMMV.
a nightstand with a cabinet door--readily available, all sorts of styles, very affordable
I would not suggest IKEA but for me I already have mostly antiques and mid century pieces in home so I wanted something functional that was inexpensive and that would blend in well.
I used the EFFEKTIV cabinet first for a TV and to house stereo and other items. Now I use it in my office to house fax and printer with bins for paper storage/files..my complete office is in a bin, I just pull out the bin when needed and put back.
I now use to top surface for a vintage lamp and a home for nine orchids.
This has been used many different ways in the past three years.
I did not install the base that came with it and added hardware from Anthropologie.
Here are some older pictures, you don't have to get two if you do not have enough room. I figure at some point I will use them separately in another room. But for now I love them in my office,

Thanks for the worldmarket link. My concern with this was indeed the quality of these assembly required products. I will check out craigslist. Helene
I keep my wireless printer under my bed. I rarely if ever use the scanner or card reader part. If needed to- I can slide it out. Out of site- but still accessible.
I have the HP Envy 100 and it's so pretty (and wireless) that I don't even want to hide it away.
We use a sideboard/buffet/credenza, which has sliding doors, for our TV stand and we put our printer and file box in it. Our files are stored in nice storage boxes with hanging file folder frames that we purchased separately.
I construct decorative printer covers from book board, decorative paper and book cloth. Please look at my facebook page - Deco Covers - for pictures of some samples. I welcome commissions to customize your decorative printer cover based on size of printer and room decor.
I use a stack of old but decorative suitcases to hold each of my peripherals or office cr*p. I connected the suitcases to each other, punched holes through the back to thread the cords, the cords are bound together and hidden behind the suitcases - I need only grab the bundle to connect to my laptop when needed (wireless has not yet found its way inside my house...). Because the suitcases are attached to each other, I can open one lid or more to easily get to each thing, works pretty well for me.
@Rucy Can you show a picture of these suitcases?! It sounds like a great/creative idea but I just can't imagine how you set it up.
I keep my printer and office files on a bookshelf next to the desk in my bedroom. I have a small collection of metal filing boxes for papers and office supplies so the printer is the only eyesore on the shelf.
@MaryEleanor: my camera got left behind on vacation, so I can't post a picture, but look at this stack for a visual:

This is hard to describe but I'd have to even with a picture:
- Bottom is a piece of wood with locking casters.
- The largest suitcase is permanently secured to that piece of wood and holds my printer/scanner/fax.
- The top two suitcases are connected only to each other, using flat hinge hardware designed for outdoor fences (one piece of hardware in each case and then screwed through with nuts & bolts), so I can flip open the top suitcase or remove both of those top suitcases to get to the largest suitcase. The smallest suitcase is a charging station, on which I leave the lid propped open if I'm charging anything, and it also holds my home phone's base unit. The middle suitcase holds a receipts scanner and office supplies.
- I've drilled small holes out of the back of each suitcase, on the hinge side so hidden against the wall, in order to thread cords out. Now when I sit at my dining table to work, I can reach around to pull the cords over to the dining table, connect and print/fax/scan quickly.
Note: I don't print or scan much, I do it in batches, so absolutely nothing is left plugged in - it's plugged in for each use (except my phone base) and then discounted again, so if you're using a printer or scanner enough that it's generating any heat at all then this method would not work for you!
We work from home as well. I found a mid century piece on craigslist that fits our printer and our speakers. My husband drilled wire holes, but the speakers and printer are wireless (with a airport express). We hide the wires behind it down the leg. Works really well for us and the printer prints even with the door closed. After buying many different file cabinets and just not loving any of them, I ended up just keeping a cardboard file box in the closet. Works well for me. I looked at the world market desk and it just wasn't right for my house - there is also a 1000 pottery barn version which was lovely - but I like my 100 mid century piece better.
Oops - here's the link to a pic of what we have:
