Name: Elizabeth and Jon
Location: Congress Park — Denver, Colorado
My husband and I like to call our aesthetic "Gathered" because we've collected bits and pieces from our travels, flea markets, thrift stores, and our family and friends. We put them into our home in a (hopefully) cohesive way. We are very careful about what comes into our home…
… we don't like useless or meaningless clutter but we are not afraid of a stuff here or there. When you move as often as we do the memories attached to your possessions help create an instant home!
We are lucky to have found a really beautiful old apartment here, which can be difficult to find in a city as new as Denver. The wood floors, high ceilings and arched doorways are rare here, and I was thrilled to see that they had redone the bathroom and kitchen in the late 1940's and hadn't touched it since - we still have the original stove from the kitchen redo. You have to light the oven with a match but it cooks better than anything else I've ever used!
We were also lucky that a lot of our things from our previous houses fit right in to this place though we are looking to upgrade our couch sometime this year.
Our inspiration is very eclectic - Jon, my husband, loves the great outdoors (the reason we moved here in the first place!) and my eye is drawn anything old and weathered. Between those two ideas we end up with a lot of tarnished metal, flaking windows, battered bookcases and sidewalk salvaged furniture. We are learning to work with color as well, and trips to places like Santa Fe, New Mexico and The Badlands are helping us figure out how to tackle that.
Thanks, Elizabeth !

Your place is so serene looking! So cute.
Also, there are some odd similarities in my apartment: an almost identical white drop leaf and single green vinyl chair setup with skateboard nearby. And the pull down map... and taste! We both have taste ;)
It's unique and cozy! LOVE the map. :) 'Gathered'... a good description! :)
I'm so happy to finally see an apartment that looks like mine! it looks really great, I love all the pieces. I'm still figuring out colour blends and how to make our modern furniture jive with our more antique-y hand-me-downs.
I have the same Singer sewing machine in my apartment. The way I jived the old piece with my modern is, I have the sewing machine folded into the table, and I use it as a desk. On the desk is a sleek oh so modern iMac! I love mixing the two.
love your artwork above your bed! would love a more detailed shot.
I had to blink twice to catch the location because this looks like so many apartments here in Los Angeles (mine included!). the period 1920-30s tile and built in cabinets. love!
I love your style. I'm jealous you get to have that beautiful orange chair sitting next those lovely old windows!
Love the skate decks, AND the fact you all are fellow Denverites! Mile High Pride and whatnot.
Your place is so cute. Your place is very warm & bright & full of cool stuff- I also covet the orange chair. Makes me want to curl up with a cup of tea & look at the window & people-watch.
You live in a great neighborhood- my son is getting ready to move into a 1- bedroom condo in the same general area as where you live. It's an older building with lots of character & tons to do right in walking distance. I can see why you love the area.
I love the art over your bed! That's painted on a window?
I also love the notion of 'gathered' style. So warm and cosy.
I spent six years in Congress Park from 1991-97 and loved it. You're doing great stuff there, "gathering" and creating a home.
I love this! Especially the vintage kitchen and the mismatched chairs! Your style is so personal, serene, and full of wonderful unique things.
The place has fantastic bones! You could put anything with those gorgeous floors and windows and it will look great. I dont particularly like any of the furniture/accessories, but it looks wonderful because of the space.
Thanks for all the lovely compliments - we love our home very much.
For the curious, the picture above my bed is painted on a window. I found an old black and white photograph of four men standing in a lumber camp up near Vail in the early 20th c. in a pile of photos by the side of the road (you can read more about that here: http://elizalives.blogspot.com/2010/06/john-pollock-story.html) and used it as the basis for this picture - it's just acrylic on glass and rather poorly done but it works with the house.
Love those windows.
Yea! A Denver home.
I know all about gathering. I do a lot of it myself.
Wow this all just feels really familiar, like it looks so similar to any one of my friend's apartments (and they all have great taste and are "gatherers" themselves)... I feel like I could come in here and know where everything is, where to find the right dishes in the cupboards...
This is such a cute place! I adore all the old moldings and built-ins and I LOVE that kitchen!! This place is totally my style!
I would have loved to see a photo of that old stove you mentioned. I myself have a gas-on-gas stove from the 50s in my apartment, and I've designed my whole kitchen around it's enameled retro vibe!
