Inspired by a pair of 1940's lamps she found on eBay, Elizabeth built her bedroom around their sexy shape. Her fresh take on Hollywood Regency involved plenty of grey for its soothing quality but she tempered it with color and, of course, a couple of great deals.
Elizabeth, a designer by trade, loves color but didn't want to overdo it in her bedroom. So she painted the walls a medium grey and added some fun by paying special attention to the ceiling. Creating some architecture and adding color along with an amazing chandelier made the ceiling a focal point without overwhelming the room.
And of course she found some great deals on furniture:
"I love using vintage and refurbished pieces. The number one deal in this room are the Queen Anne chairs I found for 5 dollars on Craigslist. I completely overhauled them with new fabric and a fresh coat of silver lacquer. I also reclaimed a 1960's bamboo bench, upholstered it with grass cloth and lacquered it with a bright turquoise and put it at the foot of the bed."
Her bedroom is feminine and bright and a great example of how to use color in small doses for big impact.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I really like the room with the lone exception of that Lemon Yellow ceiling - IMO it's just too strong a color for the space...
...a softer butter yellow shade that matches the bench seat would have been a better choice.
(Yellow is one of the hardest colors to get right)
oh man I love those queen anne cane chairs. LOVE.
I think the color scheme is nice. the yellow ceiling doesn't bug me and I like the contrast it provides with the rest of the colors that is in a more muted tone (well besides the pops of blue)
well done Elizabeth!
"Not everything has to be muted/traditional to be "right"!"
That's true.
If the bench seat and rug were the same shade of yellow as the ceiling, then it would be perfectly appropriate - but since the ceiling is the only element in the room that is that shade, it stands out as the one "wrong" element the room.
I love it.
I love that you have redone furniture to make it your own--I'm attempting to do exactly the same thing. The whole Hollywood-esque vibe is glamorous and wonderful. Beautiful job.
I love the yellow ceiling (because I love yellow), however, I have no idea what decor elements it's supposed to be "talking" to. Definitely think it would work better if some other elements were the same shade of yellow.
Nevertheless, I really like this room. Those lamps are killer.
It's a great room. I feel that all the pieces work well in the space. The wall & ceiling colors are my favorite.
Fabulous nightstands & grey rug! Might anyone have an idea where I can find these items? I'm very familiar with Z Gallerie's borghese collection, but these nightstands look a little different!
GORGE!!!!!
Hm... it's a little hard to tell, but the ceiling could be the same shade as the queen anne chairs, possibly, and when you're there in person maybe the mirrored elements reflect more of it?
I would have liked just one picture that showed most of the room. Not that many of these (half-)photos are too vignette-y, but it's still not easy to get idea of what is where.
that's some style - & it's all that matters
Loving that vanity!
Hi Everyone,
I'm the designer of the room and first of all may I thank you for all the interest and comments on it. In regards to the much talked about ceiling, it is actually more of a key lime green and not a yellow. With the variable of different computer screens I know it can be hard to see the true color. The inspiration for the ceiling was the floral patterned fabric I used on the seat of the Queen Anne chairs. Lepidoptery you were correct that those were matching. So the pops of color in the room are turquoise and green to offset the grey and black. Since the ceiling was such a large part of the space I found it felt balanced to just have the green on the ceiling and on the chairs. There are better pictures of the chairs on my website www.vivreinterior.com if you wish to take a look.
CourtneyMariecupcakes, I love the night stands too! Thank you! The night stands are actually made of metel that was hammered onto the wood. It mimics the mirrored vanity without the whole room being filled with mirrored objects.
Again thanks for the comments!! :)
