- Inspiration for my palette:
- I've always loved the look of dark walls with crisp white accents. For our living room, I wanted a retro/glamorous feel, and I think the midnight blue walls provide a nice backdrop to anything from cocktail parties, to movie screenings, to just settling in with a good book. The teal accents came mainly from a Cole & Son wallpaper that I fell in love with.

- Tips for using color successfully
- I think the key to having such dark walls is to break it up with a lot of lighter accents. For example, our white DVD storage boxes really pop on what would otherwise be a drab, dark wall. Also, I like to pull color combinations from fabrics and wallpaper and work around that.

I think this is my favourite so far! You've inspired me to try dark walls in my next home.
I love the lamps!! And the spine. :) Fab moody space.
I love this so much! Very inspiring! I'm definitely going to try something like this in my next place.
LOVE the animal heads. My company has them in one of our lobby's.
I guess there's one in every crowd, and I'm "it" so far for this group of posters! I don't love the dark walls. I'm a neutral-light-pastels kind of person. I do love the brown sofa and the chair - that geometric print is awesome. I like the geometric print behind the chair, but I think the two prints "fight" with each other. I love the throw pillows, and that turquoise is a great accent color. I'm afraid I would become a little depressed with those dark walls. Just sayin'.
This has a good direction and seems a little off.
The grouping of the white resin faux animal heads are too aligned and spaced slightly too far apart. The middle head can be dropped lower and the side brought in. Also, the pattern on the wall with the chair clash.
Love the lamp.
Is that a vertebral column?
I like the two patterns (wall and chair). I think the similar shapes make it work.
not sure I like the chair against the wall - I'm thinking it would have worked better if the teal wallpaper was on the blue wall, and vice versa. but otherwise, its pretty neat.
the teal wallpaper is actually on a sliding barn door. Difficult to see in the photo, but it's a sliding door on a track that covers the entryway when closed. So, the wallpaper isn't necessarily behind the chair at all times
I have been looking for a white ceramic rhino head for our nursery, where did you get it from? Growing up my family had a real rhino head hung above our stair case and he was always our homes' mascot and good luck charm.
Very beautiful. The heads are great. And I love the patterns together. Would like to see more like this, my favorite.
I love the sliding door and is great that you used the wall paper---great idea for my guest room closet door that slides. Thanks for sharing!!
The heads are from Z Gallerie. They're actually my husband's, sort of a placeholder until we can find/afford a really great large-scale painting or photograph to put over the couch.
I love your color palate! I've been getting into dark walls and bright white accents too! Sweet rug :)
I also like your DVD display but I would be too distracted to watch TV with it!
This is a winner! It's fabulous! I feel like flying to Austin just to sit in the room.
I'm entered in the contest too but I had to favorite your entry. I love the dark colors, patterns, the piano.... This room will provide inspiration for my next home.
Great colors. Happy room. Love the retro tables! Unframed glass opens up the space.
great looking room! Can I ask where you found that coffee table? Its amazing!
Thanks! The coffee table and end tables were actually my husband's grandmother's. We think they might be by Adrian Pearsall but we're not sure.
Where did you find this awesome spine?!
