Name: Elsa (11 months)
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Division: Single Room
Room Size: 66 square feet

Tip for Living Small with Kids: There's only so much space for toys, but thankfully most babies seem to have just a few favorites. So, our one tip would be to curate the collection of toys. Store some if possible; donate or sell on Craigslist, otherwise.

Biggest Design Challenge in this Room: Actually, the sheer creation of the room out of our existing floor plan was quite the challenge. We lived in a 1-bedroom apartment with no place for a baby. But then we came up with a plan to take 6.5' of our living room and separate it with an enormous door (5.5w x 8.5h) on a barn door track. This allowed us to maximize light into the living room during the day, while still giving Elsa a bedroom of her own.

Favorite Thing About This Room: Definitely, our favorite thing is that one whole wall of Elsa's room is windows. This lets in lots of light during the day and plus she can look out on to our terrace garden. (At night the room stays dark thanks to some heavy curtains.) We all enjoy pulling the curtains open in the morning and admiring the pretty blossoms.
