Make hot rice with cold water. Some Japanese developers have managed to make this contradiction a reality. The key to this package of rice lies in the fact that soft rice is able to be preserved by subjecting it to 4,000 times normal atmospheric pressure. Cold water then simply needs to be poured over an exothermic pack causing steam and producing piping hot rice in about 15 minutes. Meant mainly as natural disaster relief for earthquake prone Japan, this would be useful in a home emergency kit anywhere in the world.
