I'll admit it might be a bit premature to label this a trend, but I've been seeing these wonderful brass peacock fireplace screens popping up lately here and there. I found my own (above) for $18 at the Alameda Flea Market last year, and it's perfect for our fireplace, which actually has a decorative tile with a little peacock emblazoned on it.

The screen looks lovely in Juliet Totten's amazing home, featured on Design*Sponge; it's the perfect accent in a home full of beloved found objects.

Flickr member dusty! shared this photo on the Apartment Therapy: San Francisco Flickr pool. She found the screen on craigslist. They're widely available on both craigslist and ebay.

I love the way the screen folds up, making it easy to tuck in a corner when you're feeling like a cleaner look.
What do you think? Does this speak to a larger trend of Victorian-era furnishings?

I don't know. Looks like something you would find in a furnished jersey shore rental condo. And that statement may only make sense to me.
I've had a thing for peacocks for years and last year I was looking for that exact fireplace screen. At the time I couldn't find just the right one, although there were many on ebay. Now peacocks are popping up everywhere and while they may be easier to find, I guess the thrill of having something different than everyone else is gone. :)
I don't know either. I could see it in a place with a lot of East Indian touches, but outside of that it just looks kind of...I don't know...70s to me. For reasons I can't explain.
My mom had one of these in front of our only-used-on-christmas fireplace when I was a kid. They're pretty cool, but the handle on the top reminded me of a skull and scared the crap out of me. I'm all for this "trend" due to crazy childhood memories!
nice fireplace.
I have to say I dont like it. It just looks out-of-place and personally I think it's quite ugly. I do agree that it must be practical to fold it, but apart from that it's not my style.
My parents had one of these forever in our for-decoration-only fireplace. I liked it as a kid. Makes me kind of nostalgic
Ugh.
My step-grandmother had one of those. I always thought it was so ugly as a kid. My opinion has not changed.
I think my parents still have it, maybe I should tell them to ebay it if it's a new trend.
You know what, Susie? I think the screen is pretty COOL!!!!
I wouldn't call it an emerging trend. I think it's just another example of something from the past showing up again...just like most other decorating and fashion trends.
