Names: Emma (20 months)
Location: Washington, D.C.
Favorite Family-Friendly Place To See or Thing To Do Here: It is so hard to narrow down the things to see and do in D.C. The best part of Washington D.C. is the majority of the attractions are within walking distance from each other and most are free! (continued below)
You can get your culture fix at one museum and then jet off to a more kid friendly attraction without feeling guilty. If you child tires quickly of one space you can just keep on trucking to the next. Emma is very active and was quite content to simply run around the National Mall. She also loved the The Carousel on the National Mall and Museum of Natural Histroy is super kid friendly with a lot of hands on exhibits and their cafeteria has a great variety of meals for everyone.
Best Tip for Traveling with Kids: Note what makes them the most happy and entertained at home and make that activity portable. Also, try to stick as close as possible to their routines by keeping consistent with their lunch and nap times. When night time comes, try getting to bed a bit earlier, as little children might have a hard time adapting to sleeping in an unfamiliar environement. Bring their favorite blanket and/or pillow. It also helps to find a hotel with a mircowave and minifridge that will make the potential late night request for milk easier that trying to find a convenience store.
Favorite Way to Make it Feel Like Home: Music. Kids respond so well to music, especially music that is familiar to them. Either sing or bring the ipod along.
An Item you MUST Take With You While Traveling: We have to have books. That is a must, books, coloring books and crayons. Emma doesnt watch much tv but she is a huge fan of Yo Gabba Gabba. When she is in for a long trip we bring the portable dvd player and YGG dvds.
