Name: Emmett (6 months)
Location: Washington, Iowa
When we found out that a little baby that would join our family at the beginning of the year, we had lots of room in our hearts, but not much in the house. Our 120-year-old home is currently separated into two living spaces; ours only having one bedroom, so a big nursery was completely out of the question.
That's when we decided to make Emmett something I like to call a micro-nursery. We turned our old, walk-in closet off our bedroom into a tiny little space just perfect for a little dude.
Measuring about four by five feet, it became a great challenge for me to design something fun, yet versatile. The space was so small we had to completely disassemble the cradle and reassemble it in the closet, piece by piece! Utilizing a handful of baskets, the tall cupboard - original with the house, and a minimalist's mindset; we were able to create a nursery that has served Emmett well for the early months of his life.
Most of the furnishings for the room were handmade by either my mom or myself; from the monkey cradle sheets to the thermal window curtain and the bright banner around the shelf.
As our family grows and we transition into the rest of our home, I will always have fond memories of our first baby's little space that was all his own.
