Name: Emmett, 20 months
Location: United States
I have lots of great memories from growing up in a shared room with my sister. Elaborate doll house set-ups, forts in the closet, long games of 'house' and lots of prayers together at night. There is something really magical about being young and spending your whole day playing. So creating a creative, imaginative nursery for Emmett — and our newborn little Gideon that will soon join him in the room — has been one of my favorite projects in our home. It's such a labor of love to pour creative energy into curating a place of imagination, play and rest.
We mostly kept things simple with both toys and decorations, with lots of thrifted items and DIY projects. I opted for an eclectic collection of special things to bring this room together and now I just want to move in myself.
My favorite things in the room are the special pieces that can't be purchased anywhere. For example the teepee that my husband and I made together for Emmett's first birthday, the vintage record player I got as a birthday gift one year, the wooden pull toys we bought together from a street stand in China and the iron hooks that my brother made in a historic blacksmith shop. I also love the large wall map from Hobby Lobby, the large canvas photo from Tiny Prints and the faux sheepskin rug from Ikea.
