Name: Emmett (2.5)
Location: San Francisco, CA (Alamo Aquare)
Oh, it is such a tiny space! We wanted Emmett's room to really reflect our family, not just make "best use" of the space, so we took inspiration from our neighborhood, our experiences, our sustainability standards and went for it.
First, we started with a felt rug from a shop in our neighborhood - Peace Industry. We just chose our favorite. We had wanted a rug from there for quite some time, and it was a perfect choice for Emmett's room - thick lambswool made colorful with natural dyes.
Then we commissioned a mural from local artist Brian Barneclo. We had admired and dined beside his work at our corner restaurant, Nopa, for years. We agreed to and desired his independent vision, with a request that somehow our neighborhood be incorporated and the paint be non-toxic. It is bold and spectacular. The images are starting points for stories we make up with Emmett, and the characters within the mural continue to take on personalities.
Next we chose bamboo furniture from Kalon Studios: a crib and a custom dresser with a "changing trunk" on top that later becomes a reading bench. Books ended up on the floor lining one wall - some between old wooden bookends from Bryan's family, and others in a "reading nook" we made in the closet with low shelves, a blanket, and some pillows. The final touch was hanging paper flowers from our wedding on the old chandelier. A real mishmash of us, and we totally love it!
Thanks, Nicole and Bryan!

Commercial Flour Sa...
this is amazing! (i even signed up to leave a comment;) i wish i could see more of this room (or the rest of the house). it has just a great energy!
Love the graphic wall paper, the drawer/changing table and the sweet wee one peeking out from under her warm blanket.
Love the mural and furniture.
It's been a while since I saw a child's room this cute. Seriously close to absolute perfection. The mural is awesome !
I'm kinda disappointed that it is a mural. I was hoping for a fabric I could buy and hang in my soon-to-be-renovated living room... That artist is incredibly talented !
Great mural; I'd want it & I'm so FAR from 2.5.
Love it!
Holy cow, this is my favourite nursery ever! THAT MURAL!!!
What a great crib. I've never seen one like it, and it looks so functional while still being beautiful. What a lucky kid!
Completely inviable children's space!!
Thank you so much for all the kind comments! It feels wonderful to share the room that we love so much. And, the mural in wallpaper or fabric form? What great ideas.
In case anyone is interested, we are now selling our beautiful crib:

On to the big boy bed! Since we had such a great experience with our crib, we have chosen a similar twin bed style from Kalon Studios:
