Years ago, we highlighted the beautiful end grain wood floors by Kaswell Flooring Systems. That was before The Standard Hotel even existed.
But now, it's come to our attention that beautiful Kaswell end grain wood floors are installed at The Standard. We love the texture that comes with this material, and it's not unlike the gorgeous natural texture found in the penny tile floor that's also installed at The Standard. In fact, it makes us consider this combination of end grain wood and penny-tiled floors for a residential application. Check out more installations of end grain wood floors (many of the projects are located in NYC, so you can check them out in person) at Kaswell Flooring Systems.

Bob Villa did this on one of the original "This Old House" shows. The "tiles" were grouted with a combo of sawdust and wood glue. I loved it then and still do.
They have used this in Germany forever, and I love it.
Wood is actually stronger with the wood grains this way. The structure is basically a bunch of tubes, so this way they're standing on end.
years ago coach used this flooring in their store at 57th street and madison
The Frist Museum, originally a Post office (in Art deco style), in Nashville has this flooring in some parts of the building.
This is going to be a treatment used in a similar fashion for an up and coming prominent Canadian museum. Very contemporary with a rustic feel!
