What's at the foot of my bed? A very large cat, sometimes. But more often a child (or two). But there are other things that can go at the end of the bed. A bench is the most obvious choice. But what about a chair or two (if you are blessed with the space), which creates a little sitting area? Or a decorative stool or side table, which adds interest to an often unremarkable or nonexistent footboard. Furniture at the end of the bed can also be used to store books or magazines, of course.
FIRST ROW
• Pretty little side table at the foot of the bed, from This Is Glamorous.
• Knitted pouf from 79 Ideas.
• Gold velvet bench from Janine Vasta.
• Elle Decor. If you have a spacious bedroom, you could put a single modern chair at the end of your bed to create a little sitting area.
• Houzz. A vintage folding chair at the foot of the bed.
SECOND ROW
• Elle Decor. A single modern Bo Concept stool is fun at the end of this bed.
• Tilly & Fran. A nice, simple gray chest.
• Domino via Vague Thoughts on Somethings. A suzani printed bench.
• Elle Decor. A Christian Liaigre bench almost becomes an extension of the bed.
• Elle Decor. This wood bench doubles as storage for magazines.

These are all lovely. In our old house, our bedroom was tiny so we had a small table at the foot of the bed with a lamp on it. I really liked it.
Now, our bedroom is bigger and I had an old steamer trunk at the foot of the bed for a while, but it was always covered in clothes so I removed it.
I'm okay with something longish and smallish at the foot of the bed, like in #10. Anything else would get smashed into and with pain searing through my shins might get the boot, too. It's handy having someplace a bit low to sit down and put on shoes at the foot of the bed, hold the comforter and pillows while changing the bed and generally acting as a landing strip in the BR. If there's room...
I don't have anything at the foot of my bed right now due to space, but I like either a bench/ottoman or a big trunk there. Or... a bench-top trunk!
I agree with you, amygoog. Unless there's a small desk, bench, or other piece of furniture that one needs in the bedroom and can only find room for it at the foot of the bed, what's the point?
That small round table in the first pic looks so awkward. What's the point of it?
Actually, all the pics with either a pouff or a single chair at the foot of the bed look bad. Do people sit in their bedrooms at the foot of the bed like that? If the point is to watch a tv that's on the opposite wall, a comfy chair or simply sitting on the bed makes more sense.
We don't have anything at the foot of the bed; we want to be able to walk by it easily. We do have a reading chair and a couple of bookcases by the bedroom window to one side of the bed; it is a greta place to read on a sunny or snowy afternoon.
I would very much like to have a leather covered bench at the foot of our bed to catch the quilt when it gets kicked off, or to have a place to sit when I'm putting on shoes & socks.
Why leather? because the bed and the chair --anything covered in fabric--is by default the domain of the cat. The cat does not like leather. So if I want a cat-hair-free zone where I don't risk having my arse furred, well, it must be leather.
I agree that the solo chair at the foot looks weird and doesn't have much purpose. A long storage bench that you can sit on (like #9) is perfect though! I would want one to sit on while putting on shoes/socks/nylons, etc. Especially with a significant other who sleeps later than I do, I don't want to sit back down on the bed and wake him up!
Just realized what I would store inside of it - bed linens and pillows! Now I really need one!
I think nothing is better than a sofa or love seat at the foot of the bed. However, in my current bedroom only a bench will fit. I use it constantly, and the animals always have a step up to the high bed.
I like furniture at the foot b/c i can throw my clothes on it until they get picked up - the pillows on it when i go to bed or sit on it to put shoes on
the ones with solitary chairs would look even cuter with a little footstool or small table decorated
We used to have a long, slatted bench at the foot of our bed. It looked AMAZING and was great a great place for a folded blanket or to sit and take off your shoes. But my husband spent 6 months running into it, so now it sits in the basement.
I've actually been looking for a chest for the end of my bed for awhile now, but everything I find is too expensive. I really like that grey one.
The single chair at the end of a bed seems like it would just get int he way though.
I agree with the other posters that said that the lonely chair at the end of the bed looks... awkward. I don't have room in my bedroom for a bench, but I wish I did! Would drop my clothes off on it until I was ready to put them up.
I'm looking around for a bench we like for the foot of our bed. With some mattresses, they tell you that you will prolong the life if you avoid sitting on the edge to put your socks on, etc., so a bench is really useful.
(Also, if you kick off your duvet in the middle of the night, the bench keeps it from falling to the floor...)
What about people who wake to find feet off the end of the bed? Wouldn't most objects get knocked over by sleepers or pets?
My father, a very tall man, always said a chest or bench was to lengthen the bed.
I *think* he was mostly joking.
is that duvet comforter in the top middle two separate twin comforters in one duvet???

Where did the bed covering come from?
