Nice idea but the styling looks like something from my Dentist's office.
I agree with David, plus it takes up about as much space as a desk. Not like you can really use the "saved" space for anything else.
I don't think this nook is such a bad idea. They made a mistake to post it with a stool. It looks like it would work well for checking your e-mail for 5 secs, and otherwise it would be functional shut. My thing is that UGLY cord. I HATE HATE cords, I have dressed my cords near the tv with a fabric that matches the wall almost completely and it's hidden behind that subwoofer, which got a dress as well, same color as the wall.
My husband is obsessed with this thing, but I just think it's silly. If we're working at home, it's not big enough, and if we're just net surfing, we do it on the sofa or in bed like normal people. Plus it's ugly.

This particular piece is ugly, but the idea is nice. Any halfway decent carpenter could build a simple something similar, and the cord for the power strip could be run through the wall or disguised.
I've seen it; I don't think it's ugly It's functional...and perfect if you use a laptop as your desktop. It can be placed at any height. True, there's a cord (how else would you connect?) but it's used to power all your peripherals while keeping their cords concealed). This is certainly more useful than many other available charging stations There are numerous ways of covering cords. I think one cord is preferable to the rabbit warren that usually accompany tech. And yes, it has commercial/industrial applications.
Considering the whole thing looks Photoshopped in (look at the shadow of the cord and tell me that's real), I'm sure you could run the cord wherever you wanted and this is just an example of its use. If you put the unit lower to the floor, rather than at bar stool height, I think the cord would be a lot less conspicuous, too.
Ergonomic nightmare.
I've had this nook for about a month now. It's ultra handy for when I recline in my at-home dentist chair and look at my x-rays while I recharge my iPod and check my email. But my rug is zebra, not tribal.
Make my back hurt. And my eyes. And my elbows.
that cord down the wall would make me crazy! and as someone else already said, ergonomic nightmare.
IN a small studio apartment and installed so that it's desk height, I think this could work. However, there are other solutions, just as good. And I agree, it's a photoshopped image.
These actually work pretty well, and depending on how you install it, the cord doesn't have to be visible. Under the bottom door is an opening, and if you have someone who can install a plug in, there's plenty of room so you can hang the unit directly over the plug in and you'll never see a cord.
We usually stand at ours - and use it when we need to be on the laptop for short periods. We love that so much stuff can be plugged in and I can close the door when I want so people don't see our "junk"!
I'm surprised that they sold this to a hospital - the laptop looks so precarious on the shelf, like it's aching to be knocked off - especially by some cranky sick kid. Plus there's no place to lock the computer down (equipment has a habit of walking away in hospitals).
That said, it certainly fits in in an institutional way...

Neatly charge a bunch of gadgets, hide/lock your laptop away and only one cord to hide away! Not to mention Anthro stellar quality.
Everyone is a critic (mostly bad) and thank God not everyone is a designer.
I'm with Anthro, manufacturer of the eNook... for starters, it's definitely photoshopped, partly because we liked that rug too. A competent (or not so competent) electrician can install electrical underneath the unit, and voila! No cords. Hung at the right height the unit will be ergonomic, whether you need it for a stand up or sit down workstation.
