Perfect! I am moving and need bedroom design inspiration!
can you provide a source for the rug in the lead picture?
@hjhickson, it's an Angela Adams rug. http://www.angelaadams.com/Betty.html?optionid=422
Her pieces are definitely a splurge, but completely worth it. I have an 8x10 rug in the Woods color scheme w/ the Ocean design (it was called Forrest Floor) and I couldn't be happier with it. It's a work of art.
I wish I could enter, but as a 27 yeard old living with my parents again my room is not spectacular at all. I can't wait to get design inspiration though! :)
*year
I was really hoping for another round of 'Small Cool'; not just a bedroom.
Small Cool last year ran from the end of March through to May, so maybe it's coming later on? This competition is pretty clearly sponsored by a bedroom furniture company, so the bedroom theme makes sense.
Now if only I was a US resident! The international prizes are pretty lackluster in comparison.
rmbnn and thelemonofpink,
Small Cool is on the editorial calendar for May - stay tuned!
I'm relieved to hear that Small Cool is still going to happen... I've already started taking pictures!
I want that rug
Good timing on the bedroom contest! I'm in need of some inspiration to polish up my bedroom!
Add me to the list of those who are glad Small Cool is still happening--I finally have an apartment I'm willing to enter and have been waiting for this contest since we moved in.
Small Cool seems to be everyone's favorite, rightfully so. I agree with thelemonofpink, the prizes for the rest of us are shamefully frugal.
I love Small Cool, but I'm thankful that they offer other contests that those of us with larger houses can enter!
I know it's tough running a website based in the States that feels accessible worldwide, but seriously. It's bad enough that I'm forever reading copy about "cosy throw blankets" when it's the height of summer here, they don't need to rub it in with such disparity in prizes! :P
I sent in pictures of my bedroom for "room for color" last year and wasn't even chosen as a contestant. I thought my pictures were better than a lot of what I saw, so I don't really understand AT's decision making process on these things. Not very encouraging though, for entering anything else. Sorry if that sounds bitter, but that's how I roll.
I'm working on my bedroom right now. Wishing I could enter but unfortunately right now it's an unsightly 1/2 home office while we're taking forever to renovate our real home office space. Maybe next year.
Thank you Janel & AT; re S.C.
oh yes, thelemonofpink! i wish the same thing for international entries!
The International division favorite will receive a certificate of recognition - well, gee, THANKS! What an incentive.
Books? C'mon! Toronto is really not "International"! Getting frustrated w all the U.S. exclusions of Canadians w stuff like like this...we are right next door! And closer to NYC than most of ur states...it should be "NorthAmericans" -we are the sister to American culture .... So I guess there will never be a room contest to enter for us...where do I see SmallCool? homeMADEhome
My bed is made—let's do this!
Looking forward to this for inspiration! I just bought a new bedding set that looks amazing; but, now the rest of the room looks flat. I especially hope to see interesting things above the headboard-- hopefully something other than picture frames or a sunburst mirror. It would also be nice to see a bedside table with a cellphone on it. You know that's how it really looks.
I feel your pain thelemonofpink. I have to concur with homeMADEhome: I'm in Montréal. That is hardly exotic for NY folks. While I love books of any kind, this is not a great motivation to participate.

A little background info: The reason why our contests are always structured this way is that we need to have a separate international division for any entrants not from the U.S., no matter how close or far away they are located. The reason for the separate division/prize selection is due to the differences in the laws regarding contests and prizes in different countries.
We love seeing and sharing the amazing entries from readers everywhere so we structure things this way to allow us to be able to still welcome international entries from those who are interested in participating.
Hope that helps to explain!
I understand the point that we are not in the US no matter how close. I also get that the company providing the prizes might not want to spring goodies on entrants out of their target market.
In canada, all laws regarding contests are decided at the provincial level. I am not aware that the province of Québec prevent its citizen from winning foreign prizes. While I will not participate on something I find dubious, I will gladly cheer for those who do.
Cheers.
Capital "C" for Canada... Arrgh!
Hi, where is the desk from? Love it!
I think some of our international brethren are missing the point here (Yes Canada included. Last I checked it is actually another country). I’m sure AT is not purposely trying to make you feel less than worthy. As someone who has entered many contests/sweepstakes here in the US, I know that the laws are very strict-even between different states. Please keep in mind that when you win most prizes there are also tax issues that you must deal with.
I read several blogs/magazines from international locations and trust me the contests and giveaways always exclude international participants. I also think there is nothing wrong with catering to readers in your home country and many blogs do. This issue seems somewhat silly. I think it’s great that readers get an opportunity to showcase their homes in so many ways on AT, and many people are really just raining on the parade here. IMHO
To mealove, You have the right to your opinion. If four people commented on this, it is not silly to them. Yes, we know we are another country and most canadians are quite grateful for that.
We never mentionned anything derogatory about AT's intentions and we know they cater to the US market. We are not morons. However, if AT is going to have an "international" category, they obviously intend to cater to a larger scope of people. Therefore, local laws permitting, the same courtesy should be extended to everyone.
I believe the context of a blog is different than a magazine. Blogs are online, thus accessible to anyone. On a final note, expressing concerns is not raining on a parade.
Re-cheers.
Trust this competition opens the weekend I'm about to repaint my bedroom. No such luck for entering this time it seems!
Maybe if we complain enough about the prizes, they'll just stop making it an issue (by not offering any). What ever happened to "bragging rights" ?
I would think just having your home featured would be enough.....
Is it a full moon? Anywho, I am looking forward to the bedroom contest and I'm glad that "small cool" is on the calendar as well.
Guess I'll just be watching this one! We're not moving until AFTER the contest, and the apartment we're buying is just a smidge too big for Small Cool. Might just have to wait for Room for Color!
I find it odd that the prize for this contest is an adjustable queen bed base and matching headboard. You would think that if you just won a contest featuring your bedroom and presumably your bed that replacing your bed/headboard would be the last thing you would need to do.
I like to pack all at once and use a company like www.betterthanboxes.com. It's only for Atlanta, GA people for right now, but it says they're opening up a place in TX too soon. But, I used them for my last move and it worked out great. You do have to pack kind of all at once though, but I didn't find it a hassle to do that. I think it's better to pack in 1 week or so and use them rather than wasting a bunch of cardboard and ruining our environment!
Posted my comment on the wrong page! ha... sorry everyone...
Where's the bedroom with the Martini sign? I really want to comment that I think the sign is in the wrong room. haha
