Built-ins are a smart approach to storage in an entryway, since they integrate space for coats and shoes into the architecture of a room. Unlike a hodge-podge of hooks, built-ins can streamline and declutter the area near the front door.
Shown above are a few different options, from storage benches to drawers built into a staircase. If you don't have a defined entryway, think about using built-ins to create one. In Jay's Chelsea studio, for instance, a built-in case of drawers and shelves simultaneously creates an entry hall and a bedroom "wall."

It's amazing how built-ins not only help with organization, but make a house feel like a home.
Posts like this really make me miss my very large entryway in my old apartment. *sigh*
#3 isn't a built in at all. It's two Expedit units stacked with drawers and doors in the lower one! Easily done in an afternoon if you're near Ikea.
Though it does look like they added a cover panel to the end of the run!
